In this study, we determined the complete mitogenome of of which the length was 17,073 bp, including 37 canonical mitochondrial genes and 2 non-coding regions. The control region contained termination associated sequence domain (TAS), central conserved domain (CSB-F, CSB-E, CSB-D, CSB-C, and CSB-A), conserved sequence block domain (CSB-1, CSB-2, and CSB-3), and tandem repeat sequence domain (TTD). Nine single nucleotide polymorphisms and three insertion of tandem repeat sequence (each length in 28 bp) were detected between two mitogenomes. The phylogenetic analysis showed that the families Nemipteridae, Sparidae, Centracanthidae, and Lethrinidae did not gather into a monophyly of superfamily Sparoidea in the neighbor-joining tree.

A significant proportion of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data ends up not being used since they comprise information out-of-scope of the primary studies. This 'waste' of potential can be harnessed to explore organellar genomes, such as the mitochondrial DNA, and be used for evolutionary, conservation and biodiversity research. We present the complete mitochondrial genomes of the deep-sea methanotrophic sponges and (Demospongiae, Poecilosclerida) retrieved from previously published whole metagenome sequencing data.

Background: Acanthocephalans (thorny headed worms) of the genus Pseudoacanthocephalus mainly parasitize amphibians and reptiles across the globe. Some species of the genus Pseudoacanthocephalus also can accidentally infect human and cause human acanthocephaliasis. Current knowledge of the species composition of the genus Pseudoacanthocephalus from amphibians and reptiles in China is incomplete.

Fleas are primarily parasites of small mammals and serve as essential vectors of the transmission of plague. The subfamily Amphipsyllinae (Siphonaptera: Leptopsyllidae) consists of 182 species across 13 genera, widely distributed worldwide. Only two species of Amphipsyllinae have been sequenced for complete mitogenomes to date.

Background: Amidst the escalating loss of global biodiversity, freshwater mussels (family Unionidae) have become one of the most imperiled animal groups. Acquiring more biological and phylogenetic information on understudied taxa constitutes a pivotal aspect of conservation biology. Consequently, a comprehensive examination was conducted on Koreosolenaia, Parvasolenaia, and Sinosolenaia from China encompassing morphology, anatomy, distribution, and molecular systematics to provide theoretical support for future species endangerment assessments and biodiversity conservation.

Background: Rice bean (Vigna umbellata), an underrated legume crop, demonstrates strong adaptability to poor soil fertility and has significant potential to enhance global food security. It is valuable both as a vegetable and fodder crop due to its high protein content, essential fatty acids, and micronutrients. Despite the sequencing of a high-quality genome of rice bean, its mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) sequence has not yet been reported.
