We recorded long-latency visual evoked potentials in four patients with homonymous hemianopias, one of whom had clinical evidence of "blindsight." Stimuli consisted of different words that appeared randomly and at a constant angle to either side of the center of a TV screen, and subjects responded to one previously specified word (the "target") by finger extension. Target stimuli in the intact hemifield elicited a well-formed P3 response in all subjects, whereas stimuli in the blind field produced no such response except in the subject with blindsight. In addition, the earlier potentials in this subject were larger with stimulation of the blind hemifield than the intact field. By contrast, a P100 response was present only with stimulation of the intact field in this subject. These results indicate that cognitive processing of visual stimuli can occur even when subjective awareness of such stimuli is absent, and suggest that such processing occurs independently of the geniculostriate pathway.

Optogenetic therapy is a promising vision restoration method where light sensitive opsins are introduced to the surviving inner retina following photoreceptor degeneration. The cell type targeted for opsin expression will likely influence the quality of restored vision. However, a like-for-like pre-clinical comparison of visual responses evoked following equivalent opsin expression in the two major targets, ON bipolar (ON BCs) or retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), is absent.

We employed high-resolution fMRI to distinguish the impacts of anisometropia and strabismus amblyopia on the evoked ocular dominance (OD) response. Sixteen amblyopic participants (8 females) plus 8 individuals with normal vision (1 female), participated in this study for whom, we measured the difference between the response to stimulation of the two eyes, across areas V1-V4.In controls, the evoked OD response formed the expected striped pattern within V1.

The purpose was to assess whether visual feedback of torque contributes to motor unit (MU) firing rate reduction observed during post-activation potentiation (PAP) of skeletal muscle. From 15 participants 23 MUs were recorded with intramuscular fine-wire electrodes from the tibialis anterior during isometric dorsiflexion contractions at 20% of maximum, with and without both PAP and visual feedback of torque. A 5s maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) was used to induce PAP, and evoked twitch responses were assessed before and after.

Background: Posterior laminectomy is a standard treatment for thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum (TOLF), but it often leads to neurological deterioration during surgery. This study aimed to reduce iatrogenic neurological deterioration by using an S8 navigation system combined with an ultrasonic osteotome for three-dimensional real-time dynamic visualization decompression.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent laminectomy and internal fixation for TOLF in our centre from January 2016 to January 2023.

High altitude (HA) exposure induces impairments in visual function. This study was designed to dynamically observe visual function after returning to lowland and elucidate the underlying mechanism by examining the structure and function of retina and visual pathway. Twenty-three subjects were recruited before (Test 1), and one week (Test 2) and three months (Test 3) after their return from HA (4300 m) where they resided for 30 days.
