Mesoporous silica MCM-41 was synthesized by a facile hydrothermal treatment using sodium silicate extracted from natural Opoka as the Si source. The dynamic adsorption and desorption of organic vapors mixture on the MCM-41 were investigated. Characterization of the textural properties of the samples showed that the sample synthesized with a molar ratio of CTAB/Si = 0.16 possessed the largest specific surface area (988 m/g) and pore volume (1.02 cm/g), also uniform pore size distribution centered at 2.8 nm. The adsorption capacity of this sample for organic vapors mixture improved remarkably over raw Opoka and reached 158.5 mg/g at 20 ℃, which is comparable to that of commercial activated carbon. The reusability of the adsorbent was tested by 5 adsorption and regeneration cycles. Obtained results demonstrate that the MCM-41 adsorbent can be easily regenerated by thermal desorption in air, and the cumulative heel on the adsorbent can be markedly reduced by increasing the desorption temperature, making it a promising adsorbent for VOCs abatement.

In terms of safety and emergency response, identifying hazardous gaseous acid chemicals is crucial for ensuring effective evacuation and administering proper first aid. However, current studies struggle to distinguish between different acid vapors and remain in the early stages of development. In this study, we propose an on-site monitorable acid vapor decoder, MOF-808-EDTA-Cu, integrating the robust MOF-808 with Cu-EDTA, functioning as a proton-triggered colorimetric decoder that translates the anionic components of corrosive acids into visible colors.

This research presents a systematic review of the application of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs). VOCs, compounds with high vapor pressure at ambient temperature and normal pressure, are widely present in a variety of industrial and living environments. VOCs are not only hazardous to the environment but also have a severe impact on human health.

Antireflection (AR) coatings with mechanical robustness and superhydrophobic properties have wide potential applications in optical, electronic, and automotive fields. However, the fabrication of large-sized, robust, and multifunctional AR coatings on plastic/polymer substrates has been a challenging problem. In this study, we developed a bottom-up approach to produce mechanically robust, enhanced transmittance, and superhydrophobic coatings on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) substrate.
