Spontaneous bubble growths in liquids are usually triggered by rapid changes in pressure or temperature that can lead to liquid gas supersaturation. Here, we report alternative scenarios of the spontaneous growths of bubbles inside a high-saturation-vapor-pressure and high-air-solubility perfluorocarbon liquid (PP1) that were observed under ambient quiescent conditions. First, we investigate spontaneous bubble growth inside the single PP1 phase, which was left to evaporate freely.

The behavior and fate of PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonate) in the aquatic environment have received great attention due to its high toxicity and persistence. The nanoscale supramolecular mechanisms of interaction between PFOS and ubiquitous EPS (exopolymers) remain unclear though EPS have been widely-known to influence the bioavailability of PFOS. Typically, the exposure patterns of PFOS in aquatic animals changed with the EPS-PFOS interaction are not fully understood.

Hydrophobization of nanotextured catalyst materials is a promising route to enhance the yield of N and CO conversion into green fuels. However, these applications require a hydrophobic coating to not only promote air trapping but also allow charge transfer at the electrode-electrolyte interface. In this work, nano thin films with thicknesses as low as 7 nm were deposited from the plasma phase of perfluorohexene, perfluorodecene, and perfluorooctane (PFO) precursors using a mild vacuum and gentle powers.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the environment pose persistent and complex threats to human and wildlife health. Around the world, PFAS point sources such as military bases expose thousands of populations of wildlife and game species, with potentially far-reaching implications for population and ecosystem health. But few studies shed light on the extent to which PFAS permeate food webs, particularly ecologically and taxonomically diverse communities of primary and secondary consumers.
