The growing number of multidrug resistant strains in Tunisia has become a serious health concern contributing to high rate of mortality and morbidity. Since current antibiotics are rapidly becoming ineffective, novel strategies to combat resistance are needed. Recently, we demonstrated that combination of a tetracycline antibiotic with various polyaminoisoprenyl adjuvants can sustain the life span and enhance the activity of these drugs against reference strain (PA01). In the context of our continuing studies, the effective approach of antibiotic-adjuvant was investigated against a large panel of Tunisian clinical strains collected from the Military Hospital of Tunis. In this paper, we demonstrated that the combination of a farnesyl spermine compound used at concentrations ranging from 2.5 to 10 µM, in the presence of doxycycline or minocycline leads to a significant decrease of antibiotic resistance.

Infections by carbapenemase-producing (CP-Pa) are concerning due to limited treatment options. The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) high-risk clones is an essential driver in the global rise of CP-Pa. Insights into the molecular epidemiology of CP-Pa are crucial to understanding its clinical and public health impact.

Peritonitis caused by poses a severe threat to patients with end-stage renal failure. Treating multidrug-resistant infections requires the use of antibiotics with diverse mechanisms of action. Caseinolytic protease P (ClpP) is a promising antibacterial target; however, selective activation of (ClpP) over human ClpP (ClpP) remains challenging.

This study investigated the biochemical composition and tested the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of four Indian-origin essential oils (EOs)-ginger, garlic, clove, and eucalyptus-to evaluate their potential for culinary applications. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was used to identify the chemical constituents of EOs. Antioxidant assays such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and antimicrobial assays such as Agar well diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were carried out.

Introduction Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common bacterial infections encountered in community and healthcare settings. Increasing antimicrobial resistance patterns worldwide have limited the treatment options available. Overuse of carbapenems which were considered as the last resort for multi-drug resistant UTIs over the past decade has led to the emergence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE).
