Intraguild predation interactions have substantial theoretical and practical implications for the dynamics of natural competitor populations used for biological control. Intraguild predation on parasitized aphids not only has a direct, negative effect on the parasitoid species, but it may indirectly influence the predator's development, survival, reproduction and predation rates. In this study, we used two-sex life table theory, life table parameters and predation rates of (Rondani) to compare when its populations fed on aphids ( Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) that were either unparasitized or parasitized by (Ashmead) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae). Our results showed that individuals of were capable of completing their development and attaining maturity when they fed on parasitized aphids. Although feeding on parasitized aphids did not influence the survival rates of immature , it did significantly slow their development and extended their longevity, thereby reducing the fecundity and predation rates of . These findings may be pivotal for better understanding the sustained coexistence of predators with parasitoids in the biological control of aphids.

Understanding the genomic basis of natural variation in plant pest resistance is an important goal in plant science, but it usually requires large and labor-intensive phenotyping experiments. Here, we explored the possibility that non-target reads from plant DNA sequencing can serve as phenotyping proxies for addressing such questions. We used data from a whole-genome and -epigenome sequencing study of 207 natural lines of field pennycress () that were grown in a common environment and spontaneously colonized by aphids, mildew, and other microbes.

The spotted alfalfa aphid () is a kind of destructive pest of cultivated alfalfa () that results in significant financial losses for the livestock sector. To understand how navigates the biochemical defenses of its host, we investigated the effects of susceptible and resistant aphid strains on two alfalfa cultivars. was reared for over 50 generations on two cultivars-WL343, which is susceptible to , and Zhongmu No.

Background: Compatibility between plant parasites and their hosts is genetically determined {Citation}both interacting organisms. For example, plants may carry resistance (R) genes or deploy chemical defences. Aphid saliva contains many proteins that are secreted into host tissues.

The main goal of this study was to investigate the effect of lead (Pb) at various concentrations, as an abiotic factor, and the cross-talk between Pb and pea aphid ( (Harris)) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), as a biotic factor, on the defence responses of pea seedlings ( L. cv. Cysterski).
