Published: March 2021

Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a recently recognized malignancy of T-lymphocytes that is linked to certain types of textured breast implants. Although rare, the increasing awareness of the disease is resulting in more case reports and heightened anxiety in patients with textured breast implants. This review aims to summarize the available BIA-ALCL data, including the existing theories of etiopathogenesis, the diagnostic work-up for BIA-ALCL patients, BIA-ALCL treatment recommendations, the epidemiologic challenges, and the current opinions surrounding the use of textured breast implants.

Electrical stunning is the most common method of stunning in the poultry industry worldwide, but with a growing demand for prioritizing animal welfare, gas stunning can be an acceptable alternative. This study investigated the effect of electrical and gas stunning on the sensory characteristics and consumer acceptance of chicken breast meat in addition to the impact of packaging type during chilled storage on the flavor of chicken breasts (6 and 18 days for non-vacuum and vacuum packaged, respectively, at 4°C). On Day 0 postmortem, regular chicken consumers (n = 90) were asked to taste oven-baked (165°F, ∼40 min) electrical- and gas-stunned chicken breasts.

Background: Breast implants (BIs) lead to the formation of a periprosthetic capsule, causing complications like capsular contracture. Gel bleeding, involving minor silicone gel leakage through the intact implant shell, significantly promotes capsular contracture. Various pharmacological and surface treatment strategies have been explored to mitigate these issues.

Introduction: The mammogram risk score (MRS), an AI-driven texture feature derived from digital mammograms, strongly predicts breast cancer risk independently of breast density, though underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigated relationships between established breast cancer risk factors, covering anthropometrics, reproductive factors, family history, and mammographic density metrics, and MRS.

Methods: Using data from the Nurses' Health Study II (292 cases, 561 controls), we validated MRS's association with breast cancer using logistic regression and evaluated its relationships with risk factors through: linear regressions of MRS on observed risk factors and polygenic scores associated with risk factors, and Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis via two-stage least squares regression.

Architectural Distortion (AD) is a common abnormality in digital mammograms, alongside masses and microcalcifications. Detecting AD in dense breast tissue is particularly challenging due to its heterogeneous asymmetries and subtle presentation. Factors such as location, size, shape, texture, and variability in patterns contribute to reduced sensitivity.

This study investigated the effects of lactate levels in broiler breast on protein lactylation modification, meat quality, and their correlation. High lactate injections led to increased lactate levels in both serum and breast muscle, and significantly reduced the values of pH, pH and pH. Additionally, the lactylation levels in breast muscle were increased both post-slaughter and post-mortem.
