Shedding light on the dynamics of charge transfer is fundamental and important to understand the light-photocurrent power conversion in transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) heterostructures. Herein, based on time-dependent ab initio nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulation, we studied the photoinduced carrier transfer dynamics in the WS2/WSe2 heterostructure and further analyzed the effects of stacking configuration and temperature. Our calculations show that the time scales of ultrafast hole transfer in the C7 and T stacking configurations are 35 fs and 30 fs, respectively, which are mainly caused by the adiabatic charge transfer mechanism. Meanwhile, the time scales of ultrafast electron transfer in the C7 and T stacking configurations are 12 fs and 40 fs, respectively, which are in good agreement with the experimental result. We also investigated in detail the photoinduced carrier transfer pathways of C7 and T stacking configurations, which appear to have some significant differences. In addition, we found that the temperature basically has no effect on the electron transfer dynamics of the WS2/WSe2 heterostructure; this is in excellent agreement with the experimental observation. In short, the reported findings can provide more in-depth insights into the photoinduced carrier transfer dynamics of TMD-based van der Waals heterostructures.

The formation of large polarons resulting from the Fröhlich coupling of photogenerated carriers with the polarized crystal lattice is considered crucial in shaping the outstanding optoelectronic properties in hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite crystals. Until now, the initial polaron dynamics after photoexcitation have remained elusive in the hybrid perovskite system. Here, based on the terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and optical-pump terahertz probe, we access the nature of interplay between photoexcited unbound charge carriers and optical phonons in MAPbBr within the initial 5 ps after excitation and have demonstrated the simultaneous existence of both electron- and hole-polarons, together with the photogenerated carrier dynamic process.

Gold (Au) nanoclustersare promising photocatalysts for biomedicine, sensing, and environmental remediation. However, the short carrier lifetime, inherent instability, and unclear charge transfer mechanism hinder their application. Herein, the Au nanoclusters decorated with three different isomers of o-Aminophenol, m-Aminophenol, and p-Aminophenol are synthesized, namely o-Au, m-Au, and p-Au, which achieve efficient hydrogen peroxide (HO) photoproduction through two-step one-electron oxygen reduction reaction (ORR).

Unveiling the nonlinear interactions between terahertz (THz) electromagnetic waves and free carriers in two-dimensional materials is crucial for the development of high-field and high-frequency electronic devices. Herein, we investigate THz nonlinear transport dynamics in a monolayer graphene/MoS heterostructure using time-resolved THz spectroscopy with intense THz pulses as the probe. Following ultrafast photoexcitation, the interfacial charge transfer establishes a nonequilibrium carrier redistribution, leaving free holes in the graphene and trapping electrons in the MoS.

The coupling of carbon dioxide (CO) with epoxides to produce cyclic carbonates is a desirable decarbonization approach, but its commercial applicability is still restricted by the costly catalysts required, as well as the need for high temperature and high pressure. Herein, oxygen vacancy-rich defective tungsten oxide (WO) rich in Lewis acid sites was modified by Prussian blue (PB), and the obtained composite reaches up to 94 % styrene carbonate yield (171 mmol gh) at ambient temperature and pressure, exhibiting outstanding advantages in the photocatalytic CO cycloaddition reaction compared with currently reported photocatalysts. It is found that the introduction of PB with photothermal properties significantly enhances the capability of WO to absorb and activate CO and epoxide, along with its light utilization ability.

NiO is a wide-bandgap p-type metal oxide that has extensive applications in optoelectronics and photocatalysts. Understanding the carrier dynamics in p-type NiO is pivotal for optimizing device performance, yet they remain largely unexplored. In this study, we employed femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy to delve into the dynamics of photogenerated carriers in NiO films containing distinct prominent native defects: undoped NiO with oxygen vacancies () and O-rich NiO (denoted as NiO) with nickel vacancies ().
