Nonresponse to exercise has been extensively examined in young athletes but is seldom reported in studies of aerobic exercise interventions in older adults. This study examined the prevalence of nonresponse and poor response to exercise in functional and quality of life outcomes and response patterns between and among older adults undergoing 12-weeks of supervised exercise therapy for the management of peripheral artery disease ( = 44, mean age 72.3 years, 47.7% female). The prevalence of nonresponse (no change/decline in performance) in walking distance was 31.8%. The prevalence of poor response (lack of a clinically meaningful improvement) was 43.2%. Similar patterns of response were observed in both objective and patient-reported measures of physical function. All participants improved in at least one outcome; only two participants improved in all measured outcomes. Additional research should examine modifiable predictors of response to inform programming and maximize an individual's potential benefit from exercise therapy.

Few studies have explored hip morphology and cartilage composition in female athletes or the impact of asymmetric repetitive loading, such as occurs during softball pitching. The current cross-sectional study assessed bilateral bony hip morphology on computed tomography imaging in collegiate-level softball pitchers ('Pitch1', n = 25) and cross-country runners ('Run', n = 13). Magnetic resonance imaging was used to assess cartilage relaxation times in a second cohort of pitchers ('Pitch2', n = 10) and non-athletic controls ('Con', n = 4).

Objective: This study aimed to validate the ultrasound speckle tracking (UST) algorithm, determine the optimal probe location by comparing normalized cross-correlation (NCC) values of muscle displacement at two locations (proximal vs. middle) of the biceps femoris long head (BFlh) using the UST, and investigate the effects of Nordic hamstring curl exercise (NHE) training on BFlh displacement.
Methods: UST efficacy was verified with ex vivo uniaxial testing of porcine leg muscles.

Introduction: Patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) can experience intermittent claudication, which limits walking capacity and the ability to undertake daily activities. While exercise therapy is an established way to improve walking capacity in people with PAD, it is not feasible in all patients. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) provides a way to passively induce repeated muscle contractions and has been widely used as a therapy for chronic conditions that limit functional capacity.

Lung tissue from human patients and murine models of sickle cell disease pulmonary hypertension (SCD-PH) show perivascular regions with excessive iron accumulation. The iron accumulation arises from chronic hemolysis and extravasation of hemoglobin (Hb) into the lung adventitial spaces, where it is linked to nitric oxide depletion, oxidative stress, inflammation, and tissue hypoxia, which collectively drive SCD-PH. Here, we tested the hypothesis that intrapulmonary delivery of hemopexin (Hpx) to the deep lung is effective at scavenging heme-iron and attenuating the progression of SCD-PH.

Background: There is limited evidence to inform exercise prescription for deep neck flexor activation out of supine.
Objective: To compare activation of longus colli (LC) and sternocleidomastoid (SCM) from supine to sitting, and to compare the effect of craniocervical flexion (CCF) exercises in sitting on activation.
Methods: Twenty-four individuals without neck pain (mean age 28.
