This paper explores the utility of the quantum phase estimation (QPE) algorithm in calculating high-energy excited states characterized by the promotion of electrons occupying core-level shells. These states have been intensively studied over the last few decades, especially in supporting the experimental effort at light sources. Results obtained with QPE are compared with various high-accuracy many-body techniques developed to describe core-level states. The feasibility of the quantum phase estimator in identifying classes of challenging shake-up states characterized by the presence of higher-order excitation effects is discussed. We also demonstrate the utility of the QPE algorithm in targeting excitations from specific centers in a molecule. Lastly, we discuss how the lowest-order Trotter formula can be applied to reducing the complexity of the ansatz without affecting the error.

This article studies the synthesis, as well as the structural, vibrational, and optical properties of Eu-doped ZnO quantum dots (QDs) and investigates the energy transfer mechanism from the ZnO host to Eu ions using Reisfeld's approximation. Eu-doped ZnO QDs at varying concentrations (0-7%) were successfully prepared using a wet chemical method. The successful doping of Eu ions into the ZnO host lattice, as well as the composition and valence states of the elements present in the sample, were confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses.

This paper reports an ultra-narrow-linewidth self-injection locked semiconductor laser, which is realized through optical feedback from a high-Q (258 million) Fabry-Perot (FP) cavity constructed with three mirrors, generating an output power of 12 mW. Employing a delay self-heterodyne method based on a signal source analyzer, the phase noise of the laser is -129 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset frequency, with an intrinsic linewidth of 3 mHz.

High-harmonic generation (HHG) is a nonlinear process in which a material sample is irradiated by intense laser pulses, causing the emission of high harmonics of incident light. HHG has historically been explained by theories employing a classical electromagnetic field, successfully capturing its spectral and temporal characteristics. However, recent research indicates that quantum-optical effects naturally exist or can be artificially induced in HHG, such as entanglement between emitted harmonics.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are known to self-assemble into a left-handed chiral nematic lyotropic liquid crystalline phase in water. When captured in the solid state, this structure can impart films with photonic properties that make them promising candidates in photonics, sensing, security, and other areas. Unfortunately, the intrinsic hydrophilicity of CNCs renders these iridescent films susceptible to moisture, thereby limiting their practicality.

Quasi-2D perovskites have emerged as a promising candidate material for displays owing to their high photoluminescence quantum yields and low-cost solution synthesis. However, achieving pure red quasi-2D perovskite films with luminescence centered at 630 nm and a narrow emission band presents a critical challenge for high-definition displays. Herein, by incorporating 18-crown-6 as additives that simultaneously passivate defects and regulate phase distribution, full iodine-based quasi-2D perovskite films with a single red emission peak and spectral stability are designed.
