Expansions were carried out in finite element (FE) models of disc hernia including symmetric (median, lateral, paramedian) and asymmetric types. In all models, lubricous disk bulging that applied a linear compression to the anterior part of the cord was observed at the posterior surfaces of the expansion zone, respectively. The shape and position of protrusions varyed with the temperature, magnitude, and location of expanding elements. The geometric deformation and stress distribution of the spinal cord increased as the extent of compression grew. This method is in possession of enormous potential in promoting further individualized research of cervical spondylotic myelopathy.

The two-dimensional interlayer space of layered materials has been highlighted due to their adsorption property, whose nanostructure in the water-immersed state is scarcely understood by experiment. Recent developments in molecular simulation have enabled researchers to investigate the interlayer structure, but water content is necessary for accurate modeling. In the present study, we proposed a theoretical method to estimate the saturated water content and adsorption selectivity of trichlorophenol and phenol in montmorillonite modified with hexadecyltrimethylammonium ions.

In populations of small effective size (N), such as those in conservation programmes, companion animals or livestock species, inbreeding control is essential. Homozygosity-by-descent (HBD) segments provide relevant information in that context, as they allow accurate estimation of the inbreeding coefficient, provide locus-specific information and their length is informative about the "age" of inbreeding. Our objective was to evaluate tools for predicting HBD in future offspring based on parental genotypes, a problem equivalent to identifying segments identical-by-descent (IBD) among the four parental chromosomes.

Modern sequencing technologies allow for the addition of short-sequence tags, known as anchors, to both ends of a captured molecule. Anchors are useful in assembling the full-length sequence of a captured molecule as they can be used to accurately determine the endpoints. One representative of such anchor-enabled technology is LoopSeq Solo, a synthetic long read (SLR) sequencing protocol.

Introduction: Effective decision-making in ball games requires the ability to convert positional information from a first-person perspective into a bird's-eye view. To address this need, we developed a virtual reality (VR)-based training system designed to enhance spatial cognition.
Methods: Using a head-mounted virtual reality display, participants engaged in tasks where they tracked multiple moving objects in a virtual space and reproduced their positions from a bird's-eye perspective.
Copy number variants (CNVs) are prevalent in both diploid and haploid genomes, with the latter containing a single copy of each gene. Studying CNVs in genomes from single or few cells is significantly advancing our knowledge in human disorders and disease susceptibility. Low-input including low-cell and single-cell sequencing data for haploid and diploid organisms generally displays shallow and highly non-uniform read counts resulting from the whole genome amplification steps that introduce amplification biases.
