Bio-Obturation for Internal Root Resorption in Contralateral Mandibular Molars: A Five-Year Case Study.

Cureus

December 2024

Endodontics, Iranian Center for Endodontic Research, Research Institute of Dental Sciences, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, IRN.

Internal root resorption (IRR) is a rare but complex condition characterized by progressive destruction of the internal dentin walls, typically resulting from chronic pulp inflammation, trauma, or infection. Managing apical IRR, particularly in teeth with extensive apical lesions, presents significant challenges due to the limitations of traditional root canal treatment (RCT) and obturation techniques. This report discusses the nonsurgical management of two contralateral mandibular first molars in a 49-year-old male patient, both exhibiting apical IRR and large endodontic lesions.

Background: Quadriceps weakness following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) delays rehabilitation and increases fall risk. The combined impact of tourniquets and adductor canal blocks (ACBs) on postoperative quadriceps strength has not been defined. This study evaluated the early effects of tourniquet and/or ACB usage on quadriceps strength following TKA.

Objectives: To assess the usefulness of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in patients with early-stage oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).

Materials And Methods: Seventy-five patients (mean age 62 years) diagnosed with cT1-2 N0 underwent SLNB with Tc, lymphoscintigraphy/SPECT-CT, and gamma probe detection with intraoperative histological examination of the resected sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs). Elective neck dissection was performed during the same surgical procedure of primary tumor resection when malignant deposits were detected microscopically.

Deep femoral artery aneurysms are very rare; particularly when isolated and occur simultaneously in both limbs. We report such a case of a misdiagnosed 16-year-old male presenting after hematoma evacuation was attempted for painful swelling in the left groin. Once the diagnosis was confirmed by computed tomography angiography (CTA), an emergency aneurysmectomy with deep femoral artery (DFA) ligation was performed on the left limb.

Objectives: To address controversies regarding target volume delineation for adjuvant intensity-modulated radiation therapy for oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma with pedicled flap reconstruction and elective nodal irradiation (ENI).

Materials And Methods: During target volume delineation, the primary tumor bed was the pre-surgical gross tumor volume with an additional isotropic margin of 5-10 mm. Additionally, the flap and body tissue junction were given a margin of 5-10 mm (if not already given).
