Eight new diterpenoids (-) with varied structures were isolated from the aerial parts of . Among them, xerophilsin A () was found to be an unusual meroditerpenoid representing a hybrid of an kauranoid and a long-chain aliphatic ester, xerophilsins B-D (-) are dimeric -kauranoids, while xerophilsins E-H (-) are new kauranoids. The structures of - were elucidated mainly through the analyses of their spectroscopic data. The absolute configurations of , , and were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and the configuration of C-16 in was established through quantum chemical calculation of NMR chemical shifts, as well as modeling of key interproton distances. Bioactivity evaluation of all isolated compounds revealed that , , and inhibited NO production in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells.

Purpose: Developmentally regulated GTP-binding protein 2 (DRG2) regulates microtubule dynamics and G2/M arrest during docetaxel treatment. Poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) acts as an important repair system for DNA damage caused by docetaxel treatment. This study investigated whether DRG2 expression affects response to PARP inhibitors (olaparib) using prostate cancer cell lines PC3, DU145, LNCaP-FGC, and LNCaP-LN3.

Casbene and neocembrene are casbene-type macrocyclic diterpenes; their derivatives play significant roles in plant defense and have pharmaceutical applications. We had previously characterized a casbene synthase, TERPENE SYNTHASE 28 (OsTPS28), in rice (Oryza sativa). However, the mechanism of neocembrene biosynthesis in rice remained unclear.

Isosteviol Sodium Promotes Neurological Function Recovery in a Model of Spinal Cord Injury in Rats.

Immun Inflamm Dis

January 2025

School of Basic Medical Sciences, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong, People's Republic of China.

Background: Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is an incurable condition that is the largest cause of disability. In previous studies, Isosteviol sodium (STVNa) has been shown to protect rats against acute focal cerebral ischemia; however, the effects of STVNa on SCI recovery in rats remain unknown.

Methods: STVNa was given intraperitoneally after SCI to see if it had any neuroprotective benefits.

Alzheimers Dement

December 2024

Deakin University, Geelong, VIC, Australia.

Background: Reliable treatment approaches for addressing early cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are currently lacking. Given the multifactorial nature of AD, therapeutic strategies need to focus on disease-specific biochemical pathways. Given the significance of metabolic pathways in cognitive impairment, it is essential to investigate alternative disease modifiers capable of targeting multiple metabolic pathways, such as phytochemicals.
