Health concerns are increasingly prevalent due to aging populations and lifestyle-related diseases. Concurrently, modern consumers seek natural alternatives and are wary of medication side effects, emphasizing the importance of natural compounds for health maintenance. Functional mushrooms, known for their adaptogenic properties, offer health benefits beyond nutrition and are valued as nutraceuticals and functional foods.

Introduction: Tackling the inertia of growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) requires changes in how antibiotics are prescribed and utilized. The monitoring of antimicrobial prescribing in hospitals is a critical component in optimizing antibiotic use. Point prevalence surveys (PPSs) enable the surveillance of antibiotic prescribing at the patient level in small hospitals that lack the resources to establish antimicrobial stewardship programs (ASP).

Neurodegenerative diseases are often characterized by mitochondrial dysfunction. Primary cutaneous amoebiasis is rare, and typically affects immunocompromised patients and presents with unique clinical and histopathologic changes. Untreated, the infection could progress to involve the central nervous system, which is almost universally fatal. We present a case of primary cutaneous acanthamoebiasis in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia on acalabrutinib.

Treatment for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) primarily involves the suppression of androgen receptor (AR) activity using androgen receptor signaling inhibitors (ARSIs). While ARSIs have extended patient survival, resistance inevitably develops. Mechanisms of resistance include genomic aberrations at the AR locus that reactivate AR signaling, or lineage plasticity that drives emergence of AR-independent phenotypes.
