Poisoning in pets is becoming increasingly common, in many cases resulting in severe clinical signs, such as ataxia, urinary incontinence, mydriasis, depression, and hyperesthesia. Colombia does not have any reliable test for the diagnosis of exposure to cannabis in animals, and it is not an obligation to report this kind of poisoning to the authorities.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) includes conditions with autoimmune genesis, which are manifested by attacks of optic neuritis (ON) and transverse myelitis (TM), and also express aquaporin 4 (NMO-IgG) or myelin oligo-endocytic glycoprotein (MOGAb) antibodies. In rare cases, the disease may also have a clinical presentation with only TM, without ON or with ON, without TM. These conditions are also included in the spectrum.

The restoration of nerve function after the injury might be complicated by the development of a disorganized fibrous mass-a neuroma. This results in sensory and/or motor deficits and pain that can be severely debilitating. Surgical excision of the painful neuroma may leave a gap, which can be bridged using autografts or allografts.
