-methyladenosine (mA) is a widespread post-transcriptional modification of RNA in eukaryotes. The conserved YTH-domain-containing RNA binding protein has been widely reported to serve as a typical mA reader in various species. However, no studies have reported the mA readers in ().

Xylem Hydraulics of Two Temperate Tree Species with Contrasting Growth Rates.

Plants (Basel)

December 2024

CAS Key Laboratory of Forest Ecology and Management, Institute of Applied Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenyang 110016, China.

Hydraulic functionality is crucial for tree productivity and stress tolerance. According to the theory of the fast-slow economics spectrum, the adaptive strategies of different tree species diverge along a spectrum defined by coordination and trade-offs of a suite of functional traits. The fast- and slow-growing species are expected to differ in hydraulic efficiency and safety; however, there is still a lack of investigation on the mechanistic association between tree growth rate and tree hydraulic functionality.

Traditional Knowledge, Use, and Management of Among the Mijikenda Community in Kilifi, Kenya.

Plants (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Crop Sciences and Agroforestry, Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Kamýcká 129, 165 00 Praha-Suchdol, Czech Republic.

Although Lam. (Moringaceae) is a multipurpose tree with remarkable nutritional and therapeutic benefits, it is undervalued and neglected in Kenya, as the local people associate it with famine and poverty. The present study aims to assess and document the traditional knowledge on use and management as well as production constraints of the species among the Mijikenda community in Kilifi County, Kenya.

Anthropogenic Drivers of Small-Island Effects in Urban Remnant Woody Plants.

Plants (Basel)

December 2024

College of Landscape Architecture and Forestry, Qingdao Agricultural University, Qingdao 266109, China.

The positive relationship between species richness and area is a fundamental principle in ecology. However, this pattern deviates on small islands, where species richness either changes independently of area or increases at a slower rate-a phenomenon known as the Small-Island Effect (SIE). While the SIE has been well documented in natural ecosystem, its presence in highly fragmented and disturbed urban ecosystem remains unexplored, posing challenges for urban vegetation conservation.

Genome-Wide Identification of Xyloglucan Endotransglucosylase/Hydrolase Multigene Family in Chinese Jujube () and Their Expression Patterns Under Different Environmental Stresses.

Plants (Basel)

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding, National Engineering Research Center of Tree Breeding and Ecological Restoration, Key Laboratory of Genetics and Breeding in Forest Trees and Ornamental Plants, Ministry of Education, College of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing 100083, China.

The Xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH) family, a group of cell wall-modifying enzymes, plays crucial roles in plant growth, development, and stress adaptation. The quality and yield of Chinese jujube () fruit are significantly impacted by environmental stresses, including excessive salinity, drought, freezing, and disease. However, there has been no report of the XTH encoding genes present in the Chinese jujube genome and their response transcription level under various stresses.
