Three new sesquiterpenoids, peniterpenoids A - C (1-3), together with six known metabolites (4-9) were isolated from an entomogenous fungus Penicillium janthinellum (LB1.20090001) collected from a wheat cyst nematode. The structures of the new compounds were elucidated based on NMR and HRESIMS spectroscopic analyses. The absolute configuration of the C-8 secondary alcohol of peniterpenoid B (2) was determined by [Rh(OCOCF)]-induced ECD experiment. Subsequently, the antimicrobial and DPPH scavenging activities were determined. Compounds 6-8 exhibited moderate antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus (CGMCC1.2465) with MIC values of 25.0, 50.0 and 12.5 μg/mL, respectively.

Background: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is often diagnosed at an advanced stage due to the lack of non-invasive early detection tools, which significantly impacts patient prognosis. Given that glycosylation alterations especially high sialylation and fucosylation, frequently occur during cellular malignant transformation, but their roles are not elucidated. We examined alterations in disease-specific glycosylated extracellular vesicles (EVs)-derived miRNAs in the serum of ESCC patients, evaluating their utility as diagnostic biomarkers.

Leukemia is a prevalent cancer that severely affects children, and standard chemotherapy often leads to severe gastrointestinal symptoms and neutropenia. This study aimed to discover alternative treatments to prevent neutropenia in pediatric leukemia patients and minimize chemotherapy-related complications. This randomized, placebo-controlled trial was conducted on 52 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years who were suffering from acute leukemia and undergoing chemotherapy.

Background: Diabetes mellitus and periodontitis are two common chronic diseases with bidirectional relationship. Considering the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of these two diseases, the use of nutritional supplements with antioxidant properties can be useful. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of daily synbiotic supplement in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and periodontal disease (PD) under non-surgical periodontal therapy (NSPT).

Polyphenolic plant compounds possess nutritional and pro-healthy potential, reducing the risk of auto-inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. However, their interference with the progression of thyroid gland dysfunctions has remained largely unaddressed. For this purpose, we combined the analyses of phenolic content and antioxidative activity with the thyroid peroxidase (TPO), lipoxygenase (LOX), xanthine oxidase (XO) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) activity assays, isobolographic approach and the estimation of thyroid cancer cells' proliferation and motility in vitro.

The anti-cancer potential of eugenol (EUG) is well recognized, whereas that of spermidine (SPD) is subject to dispute and requires further research. The anti-tumorigenic potential of wheat germ SPD (150 µM) and clove EUG (100 µM), alone, in combination as SPD+EUG (50 µM + 100 µM) and, as a supplement (SUPPL; 0.6 µM SPD + 50 µM EUG), was investigated on both metastatic SW620 and primary Caco-2 colorectal cancer (CRC) spheroids.
