A new class of cyanopyridine derivatives (10a-e and 11a-e) containing the phenylurea unit was synthesized and tested against some metabolic enzymes including acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and α-glycosidase (α-Gly). The new cyanopyridine derivatives showed K values in the range of 40.73 ± 6.54 to 87.05 ± 16.98 µM against AChE, 29.17 ± 4.88 to 124.03 ± 22.43 µM against BChE, and 3.66 ± 0.93 to 26.33 ± 5.05 µM against α-Gly. These inhibition effects were compared with standard enzyme inhibitors like tacrine (for AChE and BChE) and acarbose (for α-Gly). Also, these cyanopyridine derivatives with the best inhibition score were docked into the active site of the indicated metabolic enzymes. Finally, molecular docking calculations were made to compare the biological activities of the compounds against AChE (-8.81 kcal/mol for molecule 11d), BChE (-3.52 kcal/mol for molecule 11d), and α-Gly (-2.98 kcal/mol for molecule 11a). After molecular docking calculations, the ADME/T analysis was performed to examine the future drug use properties of the new cyanopyridine derivatives containing phenylurea.

Based on the concept "Derived from Agroforestry, belong to (Servicing) Agroforestry", we herein achieved the tandem catalytic transformation of lignin to phenolic aryl acrylic esters, which can work as plant growth regulators. The transformation involves the first catalytic oxidative fractionation (COF) of lignin into aromatic aldehydes, which can further undergo Knoevenagel condensation with acids/esters with active Cα-H to generate the phenolic aryl acrylic esters. For the first lignin transformation, the Cu salt (CuSO4) in a 7.

A set of innovative N-amino-5-cyano-6-pyridones derivatives was developed and produced using one-pot three-component procedures. The evaluated molecules were examined for their antimicrobial efficacy. Based on the acquired findings, most of the investigated compounds had promising antimicrobial properties.

A novel series of cyanopyridines 7a-j were synthesized via a one-pot multicomponent reaction of arylidene 4 with ammonium acetate 5 and respective methylaryl/heterylketones 6a-j in ethanol using vanillin as a natural starting material. Moreover, the regioselective alkylation reaction was studied by the treatment of cyanopyridines 7a-f and 7j with CHI in the presence of KCO in DMF to afford O-methylcyanopyridines 8a-g (major) and N-methylcyanopyridines 9a-g (minor), whereas bipyridine 7h gave bipyridinium iodide salt 10. All of the designed cyanopyridines were evaluated as anti-breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines via PIM Kinase inhibitory activity, and the results displayed that some of them showed high activities, especially compounds 7h and 8f, which showed excellent activities against MCF-7 with IC values of 1.

A series of hydroxy-thiazoline substituted pyridine compounds were synthesized the annulation of 1,4-dithiane-2,5-diol with cyanopyridine catalyzed by organic bases. The yields could reach up to 95%. The reaction required no solvent, and the products were obtained from raw materials and catalysts simply by grinding the mixture at room temperature for 10 min.

A photocatalytic decarboxylative aminoalkylation of 4-cyanopyridines with -arylglycines is achieved, providing 4-(aminomethyl)pyridine derivatives in moderate to good yields. This organic photocatalytic reaction undergoes a radical-radical cross-coupling process under redox-neutral conditions, featuring simple operation, readily available -arylglycines and a broad substrate scope. Mechanistic investigations indicated that a proton-coupled electron-transfer process was involved to enable the single electron transfer between the reduced photocatalyst and 4-cyanopyridine in the presence of -arylglycines.
