Background: Tuberculosis vaccine trials using disease as the primary endpoint are large, time consuming, and expensive. An earlier immunological measure of the protection against disease would accelerate tuberculosis vaccine development. We aimed to assess whether the effectiveness of the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine for prevention of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection was consistent with that for prevention of tuberculosis disease.

Article Synopsis
  • * Persistent pain and a flexed PIP joint prompted a second ultrasound, revealing a complete rupture of the radial collateral ligament and entrapment of the radial band of the extensor in the joint.
  • * The patient underwent surgery to repair the ligament and release the trapped extensor, highlighting the importance of accurately diagnosing such injuries to avoid poor outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • The rise of AI technologies like ChatGPT has led to an overwhelming focus on their capabilities, risking distraction from essential research and applications in healthcare, particularly orthopaedics.
  • Many studies confirm that large language models (LLMs) can provide reliable responses to patient questions, yet they often repeat past conclusions without exploring innovative uses for these technologies in clinical practice.
  • Researchers face a choice: continue with repetitive studies or embrace the potential of AI to create meaningful improvements in patient care and orthopaedic surgery.

Electronic address:

Biofilm infection and impaired healing of chronic wounds are posing tremendous challenges in clinical practice. In this study, we presented a versatile antimicrobial hydrogel capable of delivering nitric oxide (NO) in a controllable manner to dissipate biofilms, eliminate microorganisms, and promote the healing of chronic wounds. This hydrogel was constructed by Schiff-base crosslinking of oxidized dextran and antimicrobial peptide ε-poly-lysine, further encapsulating photothermal nanoparticles bearing NO donor.

Severe intraprosthetic aortic insufficiency immediately after implantation of a SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA valve with spontaneous resolution: case report.

Eur Heart J Case Rep

August 2024

Cardiovascular Medicine, Asia Medical Group, Sapporo Heart Center, Sapporo Cardio Vascular Clinic, North 49, East 16, 8-1, Higashi Ward, Sapporo 007-0849, Japan.

Background: Aortic insufficiency (AI) is often encountered in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) but is only rarely haemodynamically significant. Even more uncommon is the occurrence of intraprosthetic AI that often leads to haemodynamic compromise requiring additional therapeutic intervention.

Case Summary: An 85-year-old female with severe aortic stenosis underwent elective TAVR with a size 23 mm SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA (S3UR) valve.
