Overweight and obesity prevalence in middle aged subjects in the Czech Republic is more than 50 per cent, obesity is found in around 26 per cent of population. Obesity management is a long-term and time-consuming process. Early start of the treatment can prevent continuous weight gain and development of co-morbidities. General practitioners see obese patients usually as the first and they represent the first point of contact for adults with obesity. The basis of obesity management is a change of the lifestyle with added pharmacotherapy and/or bariatric/metabolic surgery. The paper presents overview of methods in obesity diagnostics and management and possibilities of their use in GPs daily practice.

Arthropod-borne viral diseases are acute febrile illnesses, sometimes with chronic effects, that can be debilitating and even fatal worldwide, affecting particularly vulnerable populations. Methods: In this retrospective analysis of a randomized clinical trial, we examined baseline predictors of the adaptive response to three months of home-based resistance exercise, daily physical activity, and protein-based, multi-ingredient supplementation (MIS) in a cohort of free-living, older males ( = 32).
Results: Multiple linear regression analyses revealed that obesity and a Global Risk Index for metabolic syndrome (MetS) were the strongest predictors of Δ% gains in lean mass (TLM and ASM), LM/body fat ratios (TLM/%BF, ASM/FM, and ASM/%BF), and allometric LM (ASMI, TLM/BW, TLM/BMI, ASM/BW), with moderately strong, negative correlations to the adaptive response to polytherapy r = -0.
