Pesticides application is expanding globally as the worldwide population increases demanding a secure and safe food supply. Organophosphorus (OP) pesticides, as a group, are widely used because they are rapidly degraded in the environment and because they have excellent efficacy and an acceptable price point. However, the chemical fate of organophosphorus pesticides is influenced by several factors, including their chemistry in aquatic environments. Among many degradation choices, hydrolysis by metal ions appears to be a good approach. Dissolved metal ions have been shown to promote the hydrolysis of organophosphorus pesticides. Using silver ion, we showed the effectiveness under and conditions for this metal ion to decontaminate water polluted by the organophosphorus phosalone. Phosalone was completely degraded in the presence of silver ions in a mole ratio of 7:1 in 20 min. Rainbow trout were divided into experimental groups to investigate the most effective ratio of silver/phosalone for pesticide degradation. Silver ion (2%) at a concentration of 0.75 and 0.1 mL removed phosalone (2%) at concentrations of 0.4 and 0.5 mL. All the rainbow trout survived in these two groups. This experiment suggested that silver ions can be beneficial at ratios in the range of 1:4 to 1:6 by hydrolyzing phosalone by attacking the electron-deficient phosphorus atom in the pesticide.

Development of accurate, convenient and portable methods for monitoring 4-aminophenol (4-AP) is extremely important because of its strong toxicity. Here, a ratiometric fluorescence sensor based on Ag-enhanced luminescence of Tb-DNA complexes has been presented for the detection of 4-AP. The luminescence of Tb-DNA complexes is enhanced about 30 times by Ag, which can trigger energy transfer from DNA to Tb more efficiently.

Salinity stress adversely affects wheat growth and productivity, necessitating effective mitigation strategies. This study investigates the combined impact of ascorbic acid (AsA), silver nanoparticles (NPs), and Salvadora oleoides aqueous leaf extract (LE) on wheat tolerance to salinity stress. A randomized complete design (RCD) was employed with fourteen treatments: T1 (5 mM AsA), T2 (10 mM AsA), T3 (20 ppm AgNPs), T4 (40 ppm AgNPs), T5 (5% S.

Direct preparation of silver nanoclusters is of great significance for their applications. In this work, by selecting sodium cyanoborohydride as a weak reducing agent to control the kinetics of the reduction reaction, we successfully prepared silver nanoclusters protected by thiol-containing ligands, including mercaptosuccinic acid, cysteine, and glutathione. Based on the silver nanoclusters protected by mercaptosuccinic acid, silver-gold alloy nanoclusters were obtained through a gold doping reaction.

In this work, we present an experimental approach for monitoring the temperature of submicrometric, real-time operating electrical circuits using luminescence thermometry. For this purpose, we utilized lanthanide-doped up-converting nanocrystals as nanoscale temperature probes, which, combined with a highly sensitive confocal photoluminescence microscope, enabled temperature monitoring with spatial resolution limited only by the diffraction of light. To validate our concept, we constructed a simple model of an electrical microcircuit based on a single silver nanowire with a diameter of approximately 100 nm and a length of about 50 µm, whose temperature increase was induced by electric current flow.

The green synthesis of silver (Ag) and zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs), as well as Ag/AgO/ZnO nanocomposites (NCs), using polar and apolar extracts of , offers a sustainable method for producing nanomaterials with tunable properties. The impact of the synthesis environment and the nanomaterials' characteristics on cytotoxicity was evaluated by examining reactive species production and their effects on mitochondrial bioenergetic functions. Cytotoxicity assays on PC12 cells, a cell line originated from a rat pheochromocytoma, an adrenal medulla tumor, demonstrated that Ag/AgO NPs synthesized with apolar (Ag/AgO NPs A) and polar (Ag/AgO NPs P) extracts exhibited significant cytotoxic effects, primarily driven by Ag ion release and the disruption of mitochondrial function.
