The fault samples of high voltage circuit breakers are few, the vibration signals are complex, the existing research methods cannot extract the effective information in the features, and it is easy to overfit, slow training, and other problems. To improve the efficiency of feature extraction of a circuit breaker vibration signal and the accuracy of circuit breaker state recognition, a Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) method based on time-domain feature extraction with multi-type entropy features for mechanical fault diagnosis of the high voltage circuit breaker is proposed. First, the original vibration signal of the high voltage circuit breaker is segmented in the time domain; then, 16 features including 5 kinds of entropy features are extracted directly from each part of the original signal after time-domain segmentation, and the original feature set is constructed. Second, the Split importance value of each feature is calculated, and the optimal feature subset is determined by the forward feature selection, taking the classification accuracy of LightGBM as the decision variable. After that, the LightGBM classifier is constructed based on the feature vector of the optimal feature subset, which can accurately distinguish the mechanical fault state of the high voltage circuit breaker. The experimental results show that the new method has the advantages of high efficiency of feature extraction and high accuracy of fault identification.

Lightning represents the primary threat to power grids, with approximately 80% of natural occurrences being multi-lightning strikes, which have been extensively studied and confirmed to pose even more severe hazards. Hybrid DC circuit breakers (DCCBs) exhibit promising application prospects due to their superior interruption performance. During multi-lightning strikes, lightning intrusive waves pose a greater threat to the insulation of equipment such as hybrid DC fuses, fast mechanical switches, and insulated gate bipolar transistors.

High voltage alternating current (HVAC) and high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems have acted as the pillars for the transmission field in power networks. Thus, two types of circuit breakers (CBs) existed; HVDC-CB and HVAC-CB. This imposed a burden on manufacturers by requiring them to set up a separate production line for each type of them, increasing production time and overall cost.

Copper, though highly conductive, requires improved wear resistance and thermal dissipation in applications that involve continuous movement and current-induced vibrations, such as power breakers. Conventional solutions, such as copper-tungsten alloys or lubricant use, face limitations in durability, friction, or environmental impact. This study explores the development of copper-graphene (Cu-GNPs) composite coatings using pulsed electrodeposition to enhance the tribological, thermal, and mechanical properties of circuit breaker components by adopting an industrially scalable technique.

Novel copper-nickel matrix composites reinforced with silicon carbide (SiC) micro particles for metal contact applications were manufactured by powder metallurgy technology and were experimentally characterized. Cu and Cu alloys are commonly used as metal contact for either vacuum, oil, or SF6 in low-voltage circuit breaker devices, but their application in environments with the presence of oxygen is limited due to their tendency to form high-resistance copper oxides. Thus, the addition of Ni as an alloying element provides resistance to both humidity and several corrosive environments and increases the composites' hardness, mechanical strength, and wear resistance.

The mechanical fault diagnosis of HVCB is important to ensure the stability of electric power systems. Aiming at the problem of poor diagnostic performance of deep learning methods under limited samples, this paper proposes an HVCB operating mechanism fault diagnosis model (multi-channel CNN-SABO-SVM, MCCSS) based on multimodal data fusion features and Subtraction-Average-Based Optimizer (SABO). This model extracts and fuses features from the input two-dimensional data using a multi-channel CNN network and then uses the multimodal data fusion features to diagnose HVCB faults.
