The inverse Rayleigh distribution finds applications in many lifetime studies, but has not enough overall flexibility to model lifetime phenomena where moderately right-skewed or near symmetrical data are observed. This paper proposes a solution by introducing a new two-parameter extension of this distribution through the use of the half-logistic transformation. The first contribution is theoretical: we provide a comprehensive account of its mathematical properties, specifically stochastic ordering results, a general linear representation for the exponentiated probability density function, raw/inverted moments, incomplete moments, skewness, kurtosis, and entropy measures. Evidences show that the related model can accommodate the treatment of lifetime data with different right-skewed features, so far beyond the possibility of the former inverse Rayleigh model. We illustrate this aspect by exploring the statistical inference of the new model. Five classical different methods for the estimation of the model parameters are employed, with a simulation study comparing the numerical behavior of the different estimates. The estimation of entropy measures is also discussed numerically. Finally, two practical data sets are used as application to attest of the usefulness of the new model, with favorable goodness-of-fit results in comparison to three recent extended inverse Rayleigh models.

In Brillouin optical correlation-domain reflectometry (BOCDR), sinusoidal modulation is applied to the output frequency of a light source, with spatial resolution inversely related to the modulation amplitude. We have developed an effective method to estimate the modulation amplitude using the width of the noise spectrum caused by Rayleigh scattering, eliminating the need for an optical spectrum analyzer or modifications to existing equipment. However, the Rayleigh noise spectrum often displays a three-layered structure, complicating the identification of the appropriate spectral components for estimating the modulation amplitude.

Cross beam fracture is one of the common failures of vibrating screens, and crack is the early manifestation of fracture, which is hard to detect. In order to meet the screening requirement of the vibrating screen and improve the service life of the cracked beam, the cracked Euler-Bernoulli beam model is established to investigate the dynamics of the cross beam with a straight crack under different weights of eccentric block, processing capacities, and Rayleigh damping coefficients based on the finite element method in this paper. The local flexibility coefficients are derived from the principles of fracture mechanics and strain release energy and solved by the adaptive five-point Gaussian Legende algorithm.

Skin tension plays a pivotal role in clinical settings, it affects scarring, wound healing and skin necrosis. Despite its importance, there is no widely accepted method for assessing in vivo skin tension or its natural pre-stretch. This study aims to utilise modern machine learning (ML) methods to develop a model that uses non-invasive measurements of surface wave speed to predict clinically useful skin properties such as stress and natural pre-stretch.

Context: The present work deals with the linear and nonlinear optical properties such as the dipole moment, polarizability, total hyperpolarizability, electric field-induced second harmonic generation, and hyper-Rayleigh scattering first hyperpolarizability of four heterocyclic azo compounds containing the sulfonamide group considered promise in nonlinear optic. The obtained polarizability and hyperpolarizability were supported by the frontier molecular orbital analysis. The properties have been effectively estimated and thoroughly examined to shed light on the nonlinear optical activity based on the density functional theory.
