Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have potential as an energy storage system because they have similar electrochemical properties as lithium-ion batteries, abundant resource reserves, and extremely high safety performance. Compared with traditional graphite materials, conductive polymers are more suitable as an anode electrode material for SIBs. In this study, a simple and scalable approach has been used to synthesize -toluenesulfonic acid-doped polypyrrole (p-TSA-PPy). The as-obtained material showed remarkable rate capacities and cyclability. At room temperature (25 °C), its discharge capacities could reach 185, 162, and 135 mAh g under 10, 30, and 50 C rates after 250 cycles, respectively. More importantly, the capacity of the p-TSA-PPy could still be maintained at 120.5 mAh g even at the 2000th cycle at 10 C. In addition, it achieves attractive electrochemical performance at different temperatures (0 and 50 °C).

Tuning of the emission within the near-infrared to visible range is observed in -toluenesulfonic acid-doped polyaniline light emitting diodes (PANI/PTSA), when water molecules are absorbed by the active material (wet PANI/PTSA). This is a hybrid material that combines a conjugated π-electron system and a proton system, both strongly interacting in close contact with each other. The proton system successfully competes with the electron system in excitation energy consumption (when electrically powered), thanks to the inductive resonance energy transfer from electrons to protons in wet PANI/PTSA at the energy levels of combination of vibrations and overtones in water, with subsequent light emission.

The optical constants of Para-Toluene sulfonic acid-doped polyaniline (PANI), PANIchitosan composites, PANI-reduced graphene-oxide composites and a ternary composite comprising of PANI, chitosan and reduced graphene-oxide dispersed in diluted p-toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) solution and -Methyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NMP) solvent have been evaluated and compared. The optical constant values were extracted from the absorbance spectra of thin layers of the respective samples. The potential utilization of the materials as the active sensing materials of surface plasmon resonance biosensors has also been assessed in terms of the estimated value of the penetration depth through a dielectric medium.

This work evaluates the performance of electrospun nanofiber membranes of PLLA coated with p-toluenesulfonic acid doped polyaniline (pTSA-PANI). The adsorption on the prepared membranes of methyl orange (MO), taken as an example of anionic organic dye pollutants, was studied. The effects of different parameters on the adsorption capacity and removal efficiency, such as MO concentration, temperature, adsorbent dosage, pH, and ionic strength of the solution, were investigated.

A novel catalyst, Co-PPy-TsOH/C, for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) was prepared by pyrolyzing cobalt salt and p-toluenesulfonic acid (TsOH)-doped polypyrrole-modified carbon support in an inert atmosphere. The characteristics and electrocatalytic activities of Co-PPy-TsOH/C were analyzed with various techniques, including Raman spectroscopy, elemental analysis, rotating ring disk electrode analysis, and a single H(2)-O(2) PEMFC, and compared with those of undoped catalyst Co-PPy/C. The results showed that doping TsOH introduces larger N and S contents in Co-PPy-TsOH/C, leading to much better electrocatalytic performance for ORR than Co-PPy/C, and that Co-PPy-TsOH/C is more likely to follow a four-electron-transfer reaction to reduce oxygen directly to H(2)O.
