Published: November 2020

Background: Hematology laboratory analyses are essential in the diagnosis of and making decisions on clinical cases. Hematology results are only meaningful when reference made to a normal range of values for a particular population. These values are affected by race, diet, and lifestyle the society.

Objective: To establish the hematological reference values for adult residents of the city of Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

Methods: Blood samples collected from 1133 healthy males and female volunteers were analyzed for complete blood count, serum iron, and vitamin B12 concentrations. After applying the exclusion criteria, the hematology results from 762 individuals comprising 313 males and 449 males were included in the study.

Results: The mean red blood cell count, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, and serum iron concentration were higher in males than females while the neutrophil and platelet counts and plateletcrit were higher in females than males.

Conclusion: This study for the first time recorded hematological reference intervals for residents of the city of Sulaymaniyah.

Chemically-synthesized Nanozymes that are widely used as alternatives to enzymes face challenges such as high precursor costs, complex preparation processes, and limited catalytic efficiency. To overcome these drawbacks, we introduce naturally derived nanozymes, nanomineralzymes, as a promising alternative, offering benefits like affordability, cost-effectiveness, and scalability. Chalcopyrite (CP, CuFeS) was sourced from a mineral deposit, and CP nanoparticles were produced by milling.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as innovative nanozyme mimics, particularly in the area of oxidase catalysis, outperforming traditional MOF-based peroxidase and other nanomaterial-based oxidase systems. This review explores the various advantages that MOFs offer in terms of catalytic activity, low-cost, stability, and structural versatility. With a primary focus on their application in biochemical sensing, MOF-based oxidases have demonstrated remarkable utility, prompting a thorough exploration of their design and modification strategies.

ITK-SYK and TEL-SYK (also known as ETV6-SYK) are human tumor-causing chimeric proteins containing the kinase region of SYK, and the membrane-targeting, N-terminal, PH-TH domain-doublet of ITK or the dimerizing SAM-PNT domain of TEL, respectively. ITK-SYK causes peripheral T cell lymphoma, while TEL-SYK was reported in myelodysplastic syndrome. BTK is a kinase highly related to ITK and to further delineate the role of the N-terminus, we generated the corresponding fusion-kinase BTK-SYK.

Purpose: Trimodal therapy (TMT) is the standard treatment for patients with nonmetastatic inflammatory breast cancer (IBC). TMT consists of neoadjuvant systemic therapy, modified radical mastectomy (MRM), and postmastectomy radiation therapy. Although broadly considered the best approach for IBC, in the United States, only a third of patients receive TMT.

The disruption of glucose (Glu) metabolism in the human body can lead to conditions such as diabetes and hyperglycemia. Therefore, accurately determining Glu levels is crucial for clinical diagnosis and other applications. Carbon dots (CDs) are a novel category of carbon nanomaterials that exhibit outstanding optical properties, excellent biocompatibility, high water solubility, low production costs, and straightforward synthesis.
