We consider the rate distortion problem with side information at the decoder posed and investigated by Wyner and Ziv. Using side information and encoded original data, the decoder must reconstruct the original data with an arbitrary prescribed distortion level. The rate distortion region indicating the trade-off between a data compression rate and a prescribed distortion level Δ was determined by Wyner and Ziv. In this paper, we study the error probability of decoding for pairs of ( R , Δ ) outside the rate distortion region. We evaluate the probability of decoding such that the estimation of source outputs by the decoder has a distortion not exceeding a prescribed distortion level Δ . We prove that, when ( R , Δ ) is outside the rate distortion region, this probability goes to zero exponentially and derive an explicit lower bound of this exponent function. On the Wyner-Ziv source coding problem the strong converse coding theorem has not been established yet. We prove this as a simple corollary of our result.

P2-type NaMnNiO as the cathode for sodium-ion batteries, has a relatively high theoretical specific capacity, but its unstable crystal structure and undesirable phase transitions lead to rapid capacity decay. In this work, Mg-B-O coated NaMnNiO microspheres have been synthesized via a liquid-phase method based on solvothermal synthesized NaMnNiO. The Mg-B-O coating layer significantly improves the electrochemical performance, including specific capacity, rate capability, and cycle stability.

Volterra nonlinear equalizer (VNE) is widely used in intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) systems because it employs multi-order operations to effectively capture the nonlinear characteristics of signals as a generic tool. In the specific directly-modulated laser with direct detection (DML-DD) link, the interaction between the chirp of DML and chromatic dispersion (CD) can be modeled as composite second-order (CSO) distortion. By incorporating the CSO model into the nonlinear equalizer, it is possible to better extract the feature of the end-to-end channel, achieving superior performance with lower complexity.

We propose a conformal vision transformer (CViT)-based demodulation for the perfect optical vortices shift keying (POV-SK) signal in the low-density parity check (LDPC) coded free-space optical (FSO) link. Despite the growing interest in POV for FSO links, atmospheric turbulence (AT) induces phase distortions, resulting in POV-SK demodulation errors and degrading POV-SK FSO communication performance. The CViT demodulator utilizes conformal mapping to reshape the circular POV-SK patterns into rectangles, enabling more efficient feature learning.
