Immunological indices and activity of xenobiotic metabolism enzymes in lymphocytes were studied on minipigs under normal conditions, under conditions of chronic alcoholic intoxication and after administration of anabol (an immunomodulator) to normal healthy animals and to animals with alcohol intoxication. Age-related differences with respect to the number of T-lymphocytes and activity of lymphocyte glutathione S-transferase were observed in the normal animals, the other indices such as activity of natural killer cells, K-cells, blast cell transformation with concanavalin A and activity of cytochrome c-reductase being independent of the age. Administration of anabol to healthy animals did not alter their immunoenzymatic status. Chronic alcohol intoxication was accompanied by development of secondary immune deficiency characterized by lower immunological indices and lower activity of xenobiotic metabolism enzymes in lymphocytes. Daily exposure to 0.8 g of anabol for 12 days at this background resulted in normalization of the above indices.

Background: Bed bugs are blood-feeders that rapidly proliferate into large indoor infestations. Their bites can cause allergies, secondary infections and psychological stress, among other problems. Although several tactics for their management have been used, bed bugs continue to spread worldwide wherever humans reside.

The biotransformation of drugs by enzymes from the human microbiome can produce active or inactive products, impacting the bioactivity and function of these drugs inside the human host. However, understanding the biotransformation reactions of drug molecules catalyzed by bacterial enzymes in human microbiota is still limited. Hence, to characterize drug utilization capabilities across all the microbial phyla inside the human gut, we have used a knowledge-based approach to develop HgutMgene-Miner software which predicts xenobiotic metabolizing enzymes (XMEs) through genome mining.

: The multiple drug-resistant phenomenon has long since plagued the effectiveness of various chemotherapies used in the treatment of patients with glioblastoma (GBM), which is still incurable to this day. ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters function as drug transporters and have been touted to be the main culprits in developing resistance to xenobiotic drugs in GBM. : This review systematically analyzed the efficacy of ABC transporters against various anticancer drugs from 16 studies identified from five databases (PubMed, Medline, Embase, Scopus, and ScienceDirect).

Although bioremediation is considered the most environmentally friendly and sustainable technique for remediating contaminated soil and water, it is most effective when combined with physicochemical methods, which allow for the preliminary removal of large quantities of pollutants. This allows microorganisms to efficiently eliminate the remaining contaminants. In addition to requiring the necessary genes and degradation pathways for specific substrates, as well as tolerance to adverse environmental conditions, microorganisms may perform below expectations.

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are promising pharmacological targets for developing antiparasitic agents against helminths, as they play a key role in detoxifying cytotoxic xenobiotics and managing oxidative stress. Inhibiting GST activity can compromise parasite viability. This study reports the successful identification of two selective inhibitors for the mu-class glutathione S-transferase of 25 kDa (Ts25GST) from , named and , using a computationally guided approach.
