Introduction And Aims: The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score has previously been shown to be useful for nutritional assessment and the prediction of several inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential use of the CONUT score as a method for nutritional screening and predicting severity in ulcerative colitis (UC).
Materials And Methods: The study was conducted on 60 patients diagnosed with UC. Demographic, clinical, and biochemical patient characteristics were collected from their clinical records, and disease severity was assessed using the Truelove and Witts scale (TWS). The risks for malnutrition were evaluated through the nutritional risk index and the CONUT score.
Results: More than 90% of the UC patients presented with malnutrition risk, according to the scores analyzed. Patients with a high (>6points) CONUT score presented with moderate-to-severe activity on the TWS. A higher CONUT score was also associated with an increase in C-reactive protein (CRP) (P=.002) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (P=.009). The data analysis was performed utilizing the SPSS version 19 program.
Conclusions: The CONUT score could be a promising tool for evaluating nutritional status in UC patients and predicting UC severity.

Introduction: Various reports have confirmed that low skeletal muscle mass, a proxy marker of sarcopenia, can be a risk factor for surgical and oncological outcomes in colon cancer. We aimed to investigate the effects of skeletal muscle mass index (SMMI) on postoperative complications, overall survival (OS), and disease-free survival (DFS) in older patients with colon cancer who underwent elective curative colon resections.
Materials And Methods: Patients over 65 years old with stage I-III colon cancer who underwent elective curative colon resections between January 2015 and December 2023 were included in this single-center retrospective longitudinal study.

Nutrition and inflammation are closely related to prognosis in breast cancer patients. However, current nutritional and inflammatory measures predict disease free survival (DFS) of breast cancer are still different, and the most predictive measures remain unknown. This study aimed to compare the predictive effects of commonly used nutritional and inflammatory measures on DFS and to improve existing nutritional or inflammatory measures in order to develop a new model that is more effective for predicting postoperative recurrence and metastasis in breast cancer patients.

Background: Esophagojejunal anastomotic fistula (EJF) following radical total gastrectomy is a severe perioperative complication in patients with gastric cancer, particularly as delayed fistula healing increases hospitalization costs and leads to poor prognosis. Numerous factors influence the occurrence and progression of EJF, with inflammation and nutritional status being significant contributors to perioperative complications. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prediction of delayed EJF healing based on postoperative clinical and imaging-related inflammation-nutrition status.

: Hemodialysis patients face a high mortality risk, requiring effective clinical assessments. In these patients, muscle wasting due to protein-energy wasting (PEW) leads to increased frailty, which is strongly associated with worse outcomes, including higher mortality. As muscle mass declines, so does functional capacity, making regular assessment of both muscle mass and function critical for prognostic evaluation.

This study aims to examine whether the preoperative controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score was associated with SSI following elective foot and ankle surgeries. This study retrospectively reviewed adult undergoing elective foot and ankle surgeries in a tertiary university-affiliated hospital between January 2019 and May 2023, and identified who subsequently developed an SSI within 12 months postoperative. CONUT score was calculated from serum albumin, lymphocyte count, and toral cholesterol concentration, and its optimal cut-off value for differentiating SSI risk was determined by the receiver operating characteristic curve.
