A new dihydroisocoumarin glucoside, vacillanoside (), and two new anthrone -glycosides microdantin derivatives; vacillantin A () and B (), together with nine known compounds belonging to the anthraquinone, anthrone and isocoumarin groups were isolated from the leaves of . The structures were determined based on spectroscopic evidence including 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and high resolution mass spectrometry (HRESIMS) data, along with comparisons to reported data. The leaves were used to extract compounds with different solvents. The extracts were tested for antioxidant activity with a variety of in vitro tests including 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate (ABTS), ferric reducing antioxidant power assay (FRAP), superoxide, and nitric oxide radical scavenging assays. The dichloromethane fraction was most active, displaying significant free radical scavenging activity. The -butanol fraction also showed notable activity in all assays. Therefore, these findings support the potential use of leaves as an antioxidant medication due to the presence of polyphenolic compounds.

Background: Peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL) frequently result in relapsed or refractory diseases. Upfront autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) using the BEAM (carmustine, etoposide, cytarabine, and melphalan) regimen is recommended. However, relapses are common in PTCL, highlighting a critical need for improved survival outcomes in these patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to understand how sennoside A behaves in the body after being administered either through injection or orally, using a validated liquid chromatography method for accurate measurement in rat plasma.
  • The method demonstrated strong reliability with a wide range for measurement accuracy and confirmed that sennoside A remains stable during the testing process.
  • Results showed that after oral administration in rats, sennoside A reaches peak concentration in about 2.9-3.6 hours, has a slow elimination rate, and exhibits low absolute bioavailability at just 0.9%-1.3%.

State Key Laboratory on Technologies for Chinese Medicine Pharmaceutical Process Control and Intelligent Manufacture, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, 210023, China; School of Pharmacy, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, 210023, China. Electronic address:

Endophytic actinomycetes exhibit considerable potential for the production of biologically active metabolites due to their coevolution with plant hosts. In this study, an endophytic Streptomyces chartreusis M7 was isolated from Houttuynia cordata Thunb. Bioactivity-guided investigation of the metabolites produced by this strain led to the identification of thirteen anthracycline-derived polyketides, including five unreported anthraquinones designated streptoquinones A-E (1-5) and two undescribed angular polyketides named chartins A and B (6-7) along with six knowns.

Sanhua Decoction (SHD) is a classic prescription for the treatment of stroke in the clinic. Based on the combination strategy in vitro and in vivo, the chemical constituents of SHD were characterized by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry, and the metabolites of five effective anthraquinone aglycones (emodin, chrysophanol, rhein, aloe-emodin, and physcion) of rhubarb in SHD were studied. A total of 222 compounds were isolated and identified in vitro, including 50 flavonoids and their glycosides, 41 coumarins, 22 anthraquinones, 22 tannins, 14 phenylpropanoids, 16 alkaloids, 18 organic acids and their esters, 14 lignans, six anthrones, and 19 other compounds.
