A new self-assembled cellulose (SACS) containing multi-functional amine, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups was successfully obtained through etherification, cross-linking and grafting processes. Then, the adsorption of sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) and Cd(II) onto SACS at pH values of 3, 5.7 and 7.5 was systematically investigated by batch experiments of single, sequential and binary systems, characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The presence of Cd(II) decreased the adsorption of SMZ because of hydrophilic site competition, while SMZ inversely increased the adsorption of Cd(II), which was attributed to bridging and especially to electrostatic shielding effects; moreover, both the inhibitory and synergistic effects were more obvious in the binary system and at a pH of 7.5. There was a dynamic balance between the inhibitory and synergistic effects that depended on the system, pH value and concentration ratio. DFT results further indicated that SMZ more easily coordinated with Cd(II) at sulfonyl oxygen and nitrogen sites, and the cationic bridge of Cd(II) with SMZ mainly occurred in the sequential system. Moreover, a complexation-decomplexation-complexation balance of SMZ and Cd(II) probably occurred in the binary system.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by a slow, short-stepping, shuffling gait pattern caused by a combination of motor control limitations due to a reduction in dopaminergic neurons. Gait disorders are indicators of global health, cognitive status, and risk of falls and increase with disease progression. Therefore, the use of quantitative information on the gait mechanisms of PD patients is a promising approach, particularly for monitoring gait disorders and potentially informing therapeutic interventions, though it is not yet a well-established tool for early diagnosis or direct assessment of disease progression.

We propose a hypothesis for the simultaneous emergence of bacteria, archaea, viruses, and mobile elements by sequential and concrete biochemical pathways. The emergence process can be considered analogous to crystallization, where genetic and biochemical systems stabilize as organisms evolve from their common ancestor, the LUCA, which was a non-free-living pool of single operon type genomes including double-stranded (ds) DNA at an ancient submarine alkaline vent. Each dsDNA operon was transcribed by different systems in σ, TFIIB, or TBP genomes.

Background: The use of a fluid co-load has been shown to enhance hemodynamic stability and diminish the occurrence of hypotension after spinal anesthesia when paired with prophylactic norepinephrine. This research aimed to identify the effective dosages (ED and ED) of prophylactic norepinephrine boluses, in conjunction with a crystalloid co-load, for the prevention of hypotension after spinal anesthesia in cesarean delivery patients.
Methods: Patients were administered crystalloid co-loads at a dosage of 10 mL/kg, in addition to preventive norepinephrine dosages direct following spinal anesthesia administration.

A straightforward and efficient nickel-catalyzed cyclization/carbonylation transformation of -allylbromoacetamides toward the synthesis of 2-pyrrolidinone derivatives has been developed with arylboronic acids as the reaction partner. This transformation proceeds through a sequential single-electron-transfer pathway via 5-- cyclization and carbonyl insertion steps, furnishing a variety of 2-pyrrolidinone derivatives in good yields. Various useful functional groups were well tolerated.
