Arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) are ubiquitous cell wall and plasma membrane components and are characterised by extensive glycosylation and heterogeneity of their carbohydrate and protein units. The aim of the study was to evaluate the structural features of AGPs present in apple fruits at different stages of the ripening process. AGPs were extracted using the Yariv reagent and examined using SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, FT-IR, and AFM. In situ analysis, immunofluorescence (CLSM) and immunogold-labelling (TEM), were performed. We demonstrated that AGPs were indeed present in apple fruits at the different stages of the ripening process. The changes in the amount (1.52-2.08 mg g), diameter (152.73-75.05 nm), molecular mass (50-250 kDa), and distribution in the cell of AGPs demonstrate their variable presence and changeable structure during the ripening process. We propose specific wavenumbers, i.e. 1265 cm, 1117 cm, and 960 cm, which could be assigned to AGPs. The immunofluorescence and immunogold-labelling results indicate that the JIM13 antibody is the most characteristic for AGPs in apple fruits. This study quantitatively demonstrated for the first time that AGP accumulation occurs in ripe fruits, which is supported by the highest AGPs content, the highest molecular mass, and the appearance of a specific distribution pattern at the cellular level.

Gibberellin (GA) is one of the crucial plant hormones involved in fruit ripening regulation. GASA genes, which respond to GA and encode cysteine-rich peptides, are prevalent in plants. While the GASA gene family has been identified in various plants, its role in persimmon fruit ripening remains unclear.

The electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR) holds enormous potential as a carbon-neutral route to the sustainable production of fuels and platform chemicals. The durability for long-term operation is currently inadequate for commercialization, however, and the underlying deactivation process remains elusive. A fundamental understanding of the degradation mechanism of electrocatalysts, which can dictate the overall device performance, is needed.

Transitioning to safe, nonthermal, and edible strategies for maintaining fruit and vegetable (F&V) quality, reducing postharvest losses (up to 55% annually), and ensuring food security requires extensive research and innovation in postharvest technologies. This review aims to provide an updated understanding of edible coatings or films (ECF), focusing on their role in reducing F&V postharvest losses, based on data from the last 40 years retrieved from the Web of Science database. The global ECF research network is represented by publication trends, majorly researched F&V, key research areas, influential and emerging authors, and global research ranking.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) serve as important signaling molecule, involved in numerous biological processes, particularly in the physiological changes associated with fruit ripening and postharvest handing. This review explores ROS key role in plant fruit ripening and postharvest quality. The mechanism of ROS production and degradation in maintaining ROS homeostasis are analyzed in detail.

In the intelligent harvesting of eggplant, the lack of in situ identification technology makes it challenging to determine the maturity of purple eggplant fruit. The length of the fruit-setting date can determine when the eggplant is ready to be harvested. This study uses deep learning techniques to predict the date of fruit maturity.
