There is a growing consensus that nutritional programming may persist and influence risk for several chronic diseases in adulthood. In the present study, we used urinary metabolic analysis in assessing diet effects on early-life metabolism. Urine samples from healthy three-month-old infants fed human milk (HM; = 93), cow's milk-based infant formula [MF; = 80], or soy protein-based infant formula (SF; = 76) were analyzed with an untargeted metabolomics approach using GC-TOF MS. PLS-DA and ANOVA analyses were performed using MetaboAnalyst (v4.0). A total of 150 metabolites differed significantly among the feeding groups, including dietary-specific patterns of urinary metabolites of sugars, sugar alcohols, amino acids, and polyphenols. Urinary metabolites may mirror the infant's overall metabolism and serve as a noninvasive tool to examine the neonatal effects of diet on early-infant metabolism.

Context: Prebiotics are often added to infant formulas to mimic the benefits of oligosaccharides found in human milk.
Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the effects of prebiotic-supplemented cow's milk-based formula on the gut microbiota, gut environment, growth parameters, and safety and tolerance in infants ≤6 months old, compared with a standard formula or human milk comparator.
Data Sources: Searches were performed in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses databases.

Infant formulas are constantly being updated and upgraded, and N-glycans are functional glycans that have not been fully exploited to date. Commercial whey protein materials are often used as basic ingredients in infant formulas. Therefore, it is important to study N-glycans in commercial whey protein materials.

Purpose Of Review: The use of body composition to assess the quality of infant growth may add valuable information to pediatric clinical care. Preterm infants have differences in their fat and muscle mass development compared with infants born at term, which may be related to their early nutritional exposures. This review focuses on recent studies examining early nutrition in preterm infants and related body composition outcomes in the newborn period and beyond.

To explore the association between different feeding methods during the first six months after birth and the physical growth of children aged 3 to 5 years. Data were from the "Taicang and Wuqiang mother-child cohort study"(TAWS) in China. Children were enrolled at birth between November 2016 and September 2020 and followed up at 1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 12, 18, and 24 months, as well as at ages 3 to 5 years.

MiRNA 148a, which is associated with various biological processes such as immunity and cell differentiation, is one of the most abundant miRNAs in breast milk. This study aimed to determine the amount of miRNA 148a in different infant formulas, which are used for infants who cannot receive breast milk. The study analyzed 20 formulas, including stage one infant formulas (0-6 months of age), stage two follow-up formulas (6-12 months of age), stage three toddler formulas (above 12 months of age), and premature ones, analyzing miRNA 148a expression and qPCR miRNA gene expression, with significance set at p < 0.
