Human chitinolytic enzymes trigger growing interest, not only because a wide range of diseases and allergic responses are linked to chitinous components of pathogens, including their interplay with human enzymes, but also due to the increasing use of chitosans in biomedical applications. Here, we present a detailed side-by-side analysis of the only two human chitinases, chitotriosidase and acidic mammalian chitinase, as well as human lysozyme. By analyzing the cleavage of well-characterized chitosan polymers and defined chitin and chitosan oligomers, we report mild processivity and a quantitative subsite preference typical for GH18 chitinases for chitotriosidase and acidic mammalian chitinase.

Introduction Topical steroid damaged/dependent face (TSDF) is defined as the semi-permanent or permanent damage to the skin of the face precipitated by the irrational, indiscriminate, or prolonged use of topical corticosteroids (TCs), resulting in various cutaneous signs and symptoms and psychological dependence on the drug. The objective was to determine the clinical spectrum of TSDF. Methods This was an observational cross-sectional study conducted between May 2021 and April 2022, comprising 100 consecutive patients of TC-induced facial dermatoses who visited the skin and venereal disease OPD of a tertiary care hospital in northern India.

Background/objectives: Anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCLs) present unique challenges due to their clinical and genetic heterogeneity. This study investigated the clinical characteristics of children diagnosed with systemic ALCL.
Methods: Retrospective data from 14 pediatric patients diagnosed with systemic ALCL at Valme University Hospital were studied.

Research on the relationship between gut microbiota (GM) and atopic dermatitis (AD) has seen a growing interest in recent years. The aim of this systematic review was to determine whether differences exist between the GM of adults with AD and that of healthy adults (gut dysbiosis). We conducted a systematic review based on the PRISMA guidelines (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses).

Growing scientific evidence suggests a strong interconnection between inflammatory skin diseases and osteoporosis (OP), a systemic condition characterized by decreased bone density and structural fragility. These conditions seem to share common pathophysiological mechanisms, including immune dysregulation, chronic inflammation, and vitamin D deficiency, which play a crucial role in both skin and bone health. Additionally, the roles of gut microbiota (GM) and epigenetic regulation via microRNAs (miRNAs) emerge as key elements influencing the progression of both conditions.
