Several new derivatives of adenine, purine, and theophylline containing the (CF)CH group connected to a nitrogen atom of the imidazole ring were prepared by the reaction of 2,2,4,4-tetrakis(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dithietane () with the corresponding substrates, resulting in the selective alkylation of one of the nitrogen atoms of the imidazole ring. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions in a polar solvent, giving the alkylated products in 47-78% yield. While for purine and 4- and 5-azabenzimidazole, the reaction led to a mixture of two isomers, the reaction of adenine and the corresponding 2-fluoro derivative was regioselective, resulting in the formation of only one isomer in each case. The alkylation of theophylline led to the formation of a new derivative of caffeine.

Among the various studies on CO2 utilization, the sustainable and cost-effective fixation of CO2 into cyclic carbonates remains one of the most intriguing subjects. To this end, a novel type of composite dicationic ionic liquid material, DIL@PDIL, was developed. This composite consists of a dicationic ionic liquid (DIL), DMAP[TMGH]Br, supported on a polymeric dicationic ionic liquid (PDIL), P-DVB/Im[TMGH]Br.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Co(CBrO)(CHN)(HO)] or [Co(Brbdc)(im)(HO)] , comprises half of Co ion, tetra-bromo-benzene-dicarboxylate (Brbdc), imidazole (im) and a water mol-ecule. The Co ion exhibits a six-coordinated octa-hedral geometry with two oxygen atoms of the Brbdc ligand, two oxygen atoms of the water mol-ecules, and two nitro-gen atoms of the im ligands. The carboxyl-ate group is nearly perpendicular to the benzene ring and shows monodentate coordination to the Co ion.

Polymeric biomaterials have important applications in aiding clinical disease treatment, including drug delivery, bioimaging, and tissue engineering. Currently, conventional tumor chemotherapy faces obstacles such as poor solubility/stability, inability to target, and uncontrolled drug release in clinical trials, for which the emergence of supramolecular material therapeutics combining non-covalent interactions with conventional therapies is a very promising candidate. Due to their molecular recognition abilities with a range of biomolecules, cucurbit[n]uril (CB[n]), a type of macrocyclic receptors with robust backbones, hydrophobic cavities, and carbonyl-binding channels, have garnered a lot of attention.

The antibiotic 2-nitroimidazole (2NI) or azomycin, used for treating drug-resistant tuberculosis and imaging tumor hypoxia, requires activation by bacterial nitroreductases for its antibiotic and cytotoxic effect. Mycobacterium sp. JS330 produces 2-nitroimidazole nitrohydrolase (NnhA) that circumvents 2NI activation, conferring 2NI resistance by hydrolysing it to nitrite and imidazol-2-one (IM2O) instead.

Porphyrins serve as photosensitizers (PS) in the realm of cancer photodynamic therapy (PDT). Upon excitation by laser light, porphyrins are capable of converting molecular oxygen into highly cytotoxic singlet oxygen (O). However, the rigid π-conjugated structure of porphyrins frequently results in the formation of aggregates in aqueous solutions, which leads to the self-quenching of the excited state.
