Background: Geriatric depression is challenging to treat owing to age-related changes in pharmacokinetics and comorbidities. Although renal insufficiency and multimorbidity are typical geriatric complications that cannot be completely separated from each other, no study has examined the influence of these factors on the serum concentrations of antidepressants. For the first time, we evaluated the effects of these factors in combination on the dose-corrected serum concentration (C/D) of antidepressants in geriatric patients.

This study examines how gender and race influence the research productivity of primary care researchers in Canada, addressing a gap in existing literature.
Methods: Qualitative, descriptive methods were used, involving 60-min interviews with 23 Canadian primary care researchers.

Pulmonary sequestration and cystic pulmonary adenomatoid malformation are rare congenital cystic disorders of the lungs. The presence of both the diseases in the same individual is therefore very uncommon. Pulmonary sequestration is a nonfunctional pulmonary tissue mass that derives its blood supply from systemic blood supply other than pulmonary circulation.

Background And Objective: The term triple whammy (TW) refers to the concomitant use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, diuretics, and angiotensin system inhibitors; this combination significantly increases the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). To prevent this serious complication, we developed an electronic algorithm that detects TW prescriptions in patients with additional risk factors such as old age and impaired kidney function. The algorithm alerts a clinical pharmacist who then evaluates and forwards the alert to the prescribing physician.
