Reliable Web-Based Auditory Cognitive Testing: Observational Study.

J Med Internet Res

December 2024

Biosciences Institute, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom.

Background: Web-based experimentation, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has enabled large-scale participant recruitment and data collection. Auditory testing on the web has shown promise but faces challenges such as uncontrolled environments and verifying headphone use. Prior studies have successfully replicated auditory experiments but often involved younger participants, limiting the generalizability to older adults with varying hearing abilities.

December 2024

Clinical Department 5, Faculty of Medicine, Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, Romania; Departments of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, Colentina Clinical Hospital, Bucharest, Romania.

Background: Messenger RNA (mRNA) -based compounds have been lately developed as one of the most promising treatment alternatives in a wide range of pathologies, especially cancers and infectious diseases.

Aim: To review the current research landscape on mRNA-based compounds, with a focus on the inclusion criteria used for participants with autoimmune diseases and/or under immunosuppressive treatments.

Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search based on PICO framework specifically formulated, throughout the most important clinical trial registries: WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP) portal, ClinicalTrials.

Background: Alterations in haematological, biochemical parameters and cytokine levels, were reported in patients with COVID-19, however, there is an underrepresentation of the African population, which could provide evidence for understanding SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis and useful tools for clinical management of cases. In this study, we aimed to determine the haematological, biochemical and cytokine profile in Mozambican individuals with SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: A cohort of 85 Mozambican individuals with RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 results, was stratified into negative, asymptomatic, mild, moderate, and severe categories.

Background: The Human Development Index (HDI)-a composite metric encompassing a population's life expectancy, education, and income-is used widely for assessing and comparing human development and wellbeing at the country level, but does not account for within-country inequality. In this study of the USA, we aimed to adapt the HDI framework to measure the HDI at an individual level to examine disparities in the distribution of wellbeing by race and ethnicity, sex, age, and geographical location.

Methods: We used individual-level data on adults aged 25 years and older from the 2008-21 American Community Survey (ACS) Public Use Microdata Sample.

Underrepresentation of people from racial and ethnic minoritized groups in clinical trials threatens external validity of clinical and translational science, diminishes uptake of innovations into practice, and restricts access to the potential benefits of participation. Despite efforts to increase diversity in clinical trials, children and adults from Latino backgrounds remain underrepresented. Quality improvement concepts, strategies, and tools demonstrate promise in enhancing recruitment and enrollment in clinical trials.
