A series of new double fence porphyrin dyes bJS1-bJS3, with eight long alkoxyl chains attached to four β-phenyl groups, have been designed and synthesized. The single fence meso-substituted counterparts mJS1-mJS3 were also prepared as reference dyes. Dyes bJS1-bJS3 and mJS1-mJS3 exhibit power conversion efficiencies of 8.03-10.69 % and 2.33-6.69 %, respectively. Based on photovoltaic studies, the remarkable cell performance of double fence porphyrin sensitizers can be attributed to reduced dye aggregation and a decreased charge-recombination rate. Notably, porphyrins bJS2 and bJS3 exhibit better efficiency than the benchmark YD2-o-C8 (9.83 % in this work), demonstrating that the double fence structure is a promising design strategy for efficient porphyrin sensitizers in high-performance DSSCs.

The objective of this study was to evaluate biosecurity practices related to chronic wasting disease (CWD) transmission pathways and prevention in active cervid herds in Minnesota in 2019 by species, size and location of herds. A self-administered questionnaire was sent to all cervid producers in Minnesota to gather demographic, management, and biosecurity practices. Among producers (N=136), 63.

The dual-functional role of carboxylate in a nickel-iron catalyst towards efficient oxygen evolution.

Nanoscale

October 2024

National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, School of Nuclear Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei 230029, P.R. China.

The efficiency of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is severely limited by the sluggish proton-coupled electron transfer processes and inadequate long-term stability. Herein, we introduce a carboxylate group (TPA) to modify NiFe layered double hydroxide (NiFe LDH@TPA), resulting in notable improvements in both activity and stability. A combination of spectroscopic and theoretical investigations reveals the dual-functional role of incorporated TPA.

Fence-Type Molecular Electrocatalysts for High-Performance Lithium-Sulfur Batteries.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Improving the slow redox kinetics of sulfur species and shuttling issues of soluble intermediates induced from the multiphase sulfur redox reactions are crucial factors for developing the next-generation high-energy-density lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. In this study, we successfully constructed a novel molecular electrocatalyst through in situ polymerization of bis(3,4-dibromobenzene)-18-crown-6 (BD18C6) with polysulfide anions on the cathode interface. The crown ether (CE)-based polymer acts as a spatial "fence" to precisely control the unique redox characteristics of sulfur species, which could confine sulfur substance within its interior and interact with lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) to optimize the reaction barrier of sulfur species.

Modern Pentathlon (MP) includes an equestrian Jumping discipline, with horses drawn blindly by unfamiliar riders. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games, concerns regarding inadequate horsemanship generated adverse publicity for MP. Conventional stadium Jumping in Tokyo provided an opportunity for comparison of the two closest Olympic equestrian Jumping disciplines.

The effects of NaCl-induced salinity on biomass allocation, anatomical characteristics of leaves, ion accumulation, salt repellency, and salt secretion ability were investigated in two apple rootstock cultivars ( '9-1-6' and ), which revealed the physiological adaptive mechanisms of '9-1-6' in response to salt stress factors. This experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using a nutrient solution pot. Salt stress was simulated by treating the plants with a 100 mM NaCl solution, while 1/2 Hoagland nutrient solution was used as a control (CK) instead of the NaCl solution.
