Aim: To demonstrate local dry vitrectomy combined with segmental scleral buckling and viscoelastic tamponade for the treatment of partial rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) with local vitreous traction in patients at high-risk for proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR).
Methods: Eleven eyes of 11 patients were retrospectively studied, including 5 retinal dialysis and 6 retinal detachment (RD; 5 eyes with peripheral retinal hole and 1 eye with giant tear). All patients exhibited partial RD and local vitreous traction. Combined local dry vitrectomy without conventional infusion and segmental scleral buckling was performed. Viscoelastic fluid was injected into the vitreous cavity if needed. Demographic information, preoperative and post-operative complications, and outcomes were recorded.
Results: The mean age of the patients at presentation was 26.55±13.52y. All 11 patients obtained retinal reattachment after a single surgical intervention. Postoperative visual acuities were improved or remained stable in all patients. None of them developed complications, except for temporary mildly increased intraocular pressure in 3 cases.
Conclusion: Combined local dry vitrectomy and segmental scleral buckling are effective for patients of RRD with local vitreous traction. The technique avoids many complications associated with regular surgery and was minimally invasive to both the external and internal eye.

Extensive grazing carried out freely by exotic goats represents an important source of anthropogenic degradation in seasonally dry tropical forests of Brazil. The presence of these herbivores may negatively impact the local fauna through the reduction of habitat complexity. In this study, we investigate the effect of goat farming in scorpion assemblage from Brazilian seasonally dry tropical forest.

Purpose: In the aging retina, persistent activation of microglia is known to play a key role in retinal degenerative diseases like age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Furthermore, dysregulation of the alternative complement pathway is generally accepted as the main driver for AMD disease progression and microglia are important producers of local complement and are equipped with complement receptors themselves. Here, we investigate the involvement of anaphylatoxin signaling, predominantly on Iba1+ cell activity, in light-induced retinal degeneration as a model for dry AMD, using anaphylatoxin receptor knockout (KO) mice.

The quality of indoor air is dependent on a number of factors, including the presence of microorganisms that colonize the building materials. The potential for health risks associated with microbial contamination is a significant concern during the renovation of buildings. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of two reconstruction methods for historic buildings on air quality.

Rotor shafts are the most heavily loaded and accident-prone parts of powerful turbine generators, which are cooled using hydrogen. To eliminate damage sustained during operations, repair work was carried out, including the removal of defective parts, surfacing, and turning. This study tested the machinability of the rotor shaft using prototypes made from 38KhN3MFA steel.

To explore the feasibility of preparing Zn alloy bulk, Zn-6Cu deposit was prepared by cold-spraying additive manufacturing. Microstructure, tensile and wear behavior were investigated before and after heat treatment. Cold-sprayed Zn-6Cu deposit was constituted by irregular flattening particles and pores after heat treatment.
