We present the draft genome sequence of sp. strain VB17, which was isolated from Virginia Beach, Virginia, intertidal sediment. The 5.2-Mb genome sequence of VB17 will be useful for studying the basis for seasonal low-temperature growth and eventual taxonomic classification of the species.

Context: COVID-19 has been associated with features of a cytokine storm syndrome with some patients sharing features with the hyperinflammatory disorder, secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH).

Hypothesis: We hypothesized that proteins associated with sHLH from other causes will be associated with COVID-sHLH and that subjects with fatal COVID-sHLH would have defects in immune-related pathways.

Methods And Models: We identified two cohorts of adult patients presenting with COVID-19 at two tertiary care hospitals in Seattle, Washington in 2020 and 2021.

Aging is associated with disrupted sleep patterns, such as fragmented sleep and reduced efficiency, leading to negative health outcomes. There is evidence of a bidirectional relationship between sleep and gut microbiota, which plays a key role in the gut-brain axis and overall health. However, studies on this relationship in older adults have limited generalizability and show conflicting results, highlighting the need for further research.

Phylogeographic Characterization of Aedes albopictus (Skuse, 1894) in Algeria.

Acta Parasitol

January 2025

Laboratory of Parasitic Eco-Epidemiology and Population Genetics, Pasteur Institute of Algeria, Dely-Brahim, Algiers, Algeria.

Purpose: Aedes albopictus, known as the Asian tiger mosquito, is an extensively studied mosquito species recognized for its rapid global expansion and its capacity to transmit a range of viruses such as dengue, chikungunya, Zika, and yellow fever viruses. In 2010, Ae. albopictus was observed for the first time in Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria, and since then has colonized all the northern part of the country until the semi-arid areas.

Anthocyanins not only serve as critical pigments determining floral hues but also play essential roles in attracting insects for pollination, feeding animals and mitigating abiotic stress. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of flower color in sesame has not yet been reported. In this study, an F population was constructed by crossing 'Ganzhi 9' (purple-flowered) with 'BS377' (white-flowered).

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks as the fourth most common cause of brain metastasis (BM), with its incidence on the rise. However, the molecular mechanisms driving the formation of these lesions from CRC remain unclear.

Methods: We analyzed the FoundationOne genomic database, which includes over 35,000 CRC samples from both local and metastatic sites.
