PARP inhibitors (PARPi) have been shown to improve progression-free survival, particularly in homologous recombination deficient (HRD) ovarian cancers. Identifying patients eligible to PARPi is currently based on next-generation sequencing (NGS), but the persistence of genomic scars in tumors after restoration of HR or epigenetic changes can be a limitation. Functional assays could thus be used to improve this profiling and faithfully identify HRD tumors.

Background: Gossip, defined by social scientists as "evaluative talk about an absent third party," is anecdotally pervasive yet poorly understood in surgical residency programs. Gossip is known to have both positive and negative impacts. This study sought to deconstruct the role of gossip in surgical residency and evaluate its impact through the lens of surgical residents.

Study Objectives: This study assessed the utilization of potentially inappropriate medications (PIM) including oral sedative-hypnotic and atypical antipsychotic (OSHAA), healthcare resource utilization (HCRU), and costs among elderly individuals with insomnia and in the subpopulation with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) who also had a diagnosis of insomnia.
Methods: Using claims database containing International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision (ICD-10) codes, the cohort included individuals aged ≥ 65 with incident insomnia (EI, N=152,969) and AD insomnia subpopulation (ADI, N=4,888). Proportion of patients utilizing atypical antipsychotics or oral sedative-hypnotic medications, namely z-drugs, benzodiazepines, doxepin, Dual Orexin Receptor Antagonists (DORAs), and melatonin agonists, were assessed.

Astroviruses and caliciviruses are important causative agents of gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. They have been detected in a variety of animal species, including dogs, but their role in the induction of disease in animals remains uncertain. In a molecular study that was conducted in Greece, including healthy and gastroenteritis-affected dogs of different ages, astrovirus (AstV) and sapovirus (SaV) were detected in 15% and 26% of the examined animals, respectively.

A machine learning prognostic mortality scoring system was developed to address challenges in patient selection for clinical trials within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) environment. The algorithm incorporates Red blood cell Distribution Width (RDW) data and other demographic characteristics to predict ICU mortality alongside existing ICU mortality scoring systems like Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS). The developed algorithm, defined as a Mixed-effects logistic Random Forest for binary data (MixRFb), integrates a Random Forest (RF) classification with a mixed-effects model for binary outcomes, accounting for repeated measurement data.
