Inflammation is a driving force of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) aging, causing irreversible exhaustion of functional HSCs. However, the underlying mechanism of HSCs erosion by inflammatory insult remains poorly understood. Here, we find that transient LPS exposure primes aged HSCs to undergo accelerated differentiation at the expense of self-renewal, leading to depletion of HSCs.

Three-dimensional (3D) printed surgical models provide an excellent surgical training option to closely mimic real operations to teach medical students who currently rely largely on visual learning aided with simple suturing pads. There is an unmet need to create simple to complex surgical training programs suitable for medical students. A prospective cohort study was conducted on a group of 16 6th year students.

Understanding human behavior and human action recognition are both essential components of effective surveillance video analysis for the purpose of guaranteeing public safety. However, existing approaches such as three-dimensional convolutional neural networks (3D CNN) and two-stream neural networks (2SNN) have computational hurdles due to the significant parameterization they require. In this paper, we offer HARNet, a specialized lightweight residual 3D CNN that is built on directed acyclic graphs and was created expressly to handle these issues and achieve effective human action detection.

In terms of the phenomenon of nonuniformity adsorption energy between methane and a natural heterogeneous coal surface, a heterogeneous potential well model is established in this study based on adsorption science and molecular dynamics theories. This model describes the methane adsorption positions in coal pores as a three-dimensional space composed of adsorption equipotential surfaces with varying depths of potential well, which emphasizes the heterogeneous distribution of methane adsorption potential well depths in coal and accurately describes the spatial distribution and energy states of methane molecules during methane adsorption and desorption in naturally heterogeneous coal. By taking the residual sum of squares (RSS) and Pearson correlation coefficient as indicators, the fitting accuracies of the Langmuir model and the heterogeneous potential well model for isothermal adsorption and desorption curves are compared so that the superiority of the heterogeneous potential well model in describing the adsorption and desorption of methane in natural coal is confirmed.

Background: Cervical lymph node metastasis (LNM) is a well-established poor prognosticator of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), in which occult metastasis is a subtype that makes prediction challenging. Here, we developed and validated a deep learning (DL) model using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the identification of LNM in OSCC patients.
Methods: This retrospective diagnostic study developed a three-stage DL model by 45,664 preoperative MRI images from 723 patients in 10 Chinese hospitals between January 2015 and October 2020.
