Background: Group A (GAS) causes necrotizing soft tissue infections (NSTIs) necessitating exploration, surgical debridement, and possibly limb amputation.
Case Presentation: A 45-year-old man presented with traumatic injury of the left carpal region, vomiting, and diarrhea. The swelling and pain in the left forearm worsened with sensorimotor deficits, and his skin color deteriorated. Emergent exploration was performed for limb preservation; GAS was detected in an exudate, and debridement was performed on postoperative day 2 for streptococcal toxic shock syndrome. He recovered uneventfully and was discharged; however, he returned after 2 months with GAS-induced STI at the same site and received antimicrobial treatment.
Conclusion: Exploration and subsequent debridement are crucial for effective treatment of NSTI.

Visualizing mechanical stress distribution in soft and live biomaterials is essential for understanding biological processes and improving material design. However, it remains challenging due to their complexity, dynamic nature, and sensitivity requirements, necessitating innovative techniques. Since polysaccharides are common in various biomaterials, a biosensor integrating a Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based tension sensor module and carbohydrate-binding modules (FTSM-CBM) has been designed for real-time monitoring of the stress distribution of these biomaterials.

A young man in his 30s presented to us with multiple episodes of syncope and exertional dyspnoea for the last 2 weeks. He was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the lower one-third of the oesophagus in 2021 for which he was treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, followed by McKeown oesophagectomy. At 2-year follow-up, he had developed a soft tissue swelling in the scalp, which was diagnosed as a tumour recurrence and radiotherapy was initiated.

As the incidence of total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) for the management of end-stage arthritis is on the rise, identification of risk factors for periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is essential. There has been limited research exploring the use of radiographic soft tissue thickness in TAA despite its predictive value in other forms of arthroplasty. This study evaluated the predictive capabilities of radiographic soft-tissue thickness for PJI following TAA.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between maxillary defects and facial asymmetry, and to establish categories for visual perception of facial asymmetry. The facial data of 47 patients who underwent maxillary resection due to tumors were captured using stereophotogrammetry. Facial asymmetry was measured using a landmark-independent method and assessed with a Likert scale.
