In this study, composite anion exchange membranes (AEMs) were synthesized by cross-linking poly(phenylene oxide) (PPO) with cellulose functionalized by 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]-octane (DABCO) or di-guanidine (DG). The structural and morphological characteristics of the synthesized AEMs were characterized by FTIR, H-NMR, SEM, TEM, and AFM, while their performance was evaluated in terms of ionic conductivity, water uptake, ion exchange capacity, and tensile strength with respect to the loading of the quaternized cellulose in the quaternized PPO (qPPO) matrix. The composite AEMs exhibited considerably enhanced mechanical and alkaline stability as well as good anion conductivity. The composite AEM with 7 wt% of cellulose functionalized with DG in the qPPO matrix (qPPO/DG-Cel7) exhibited a maximum hydroxide conductivity of 0.164 S cm. Furthermore, a urea/O fuel cell prepared using this composite membrane showed a maximum power density of 12.3 mW cm. The results indicated that the cellulose-based composite membranes showed a satisfactory performance in alkaline fuel cell applications.

The current study presents a multiphysics numerical model for a micro-planar proton-conducting solid oxide fuel cell (H-SOFC). The numerical model considered an anode-supported H-SOFC with direct internal reforming (DIR) of methane. The model solves coupled nonlinear equations, including continuity, momentum, mass transfer, chemical and electrochemical reactions, and energy equations.

Electronic waste (e-waste) has become a significant environmental concern worldwide due to the rapid advancement of technology and short product lifecycles. Waste-printed electronic boards (WPCBs) contain valuable metals and semiconductors; among them, tin can be recycled and repurposed for sustainable material production. This study presents a potential ecofriendly methodology for the recovery of tin from WPCBs in the form of tin oxide nanostructured powders.

Na-Se batteries with high theoretical capacity and rich natural abundance are regarded as desirable substitutes for lithium-ion batteries in the predicament of scarce lithium resources. However, the huge volume expansion of Se and the shuttling effect of polyselenides hinder the development of Na-Se batteries. Herein, the hierarchically porous carbon encapsulated Se (Se/HPC) is successfully prepared by molten Se diffusing into the multi-scaled orthogonal channels of In-MOF derived carbon matrix.

Although there has been some recent interest in the proton conductivity (σ) of highly stable carboxyl metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) made of tetravalent metal ions, given their potential applications in fuel cells and electrochemical sensing, research on MOFs constructed by hafnium(IV) ions needs to be expanded significantly. Based on this, we used two common and easily prepared phenylpoly(carboxylic acid) ligands, 1,2,4-phenyltricarboxylic acid and 1,2,4,5-phenyltetracarboxylic acid, to react with hafnium tetrachloride, respectively, creating two porous hafnium(IV)-based MOFs, () and UiO-66-(COOH)-Hf (), with the same structure as UiO-66-Hf but with different numbers of free carboxylic groups. A series of stability assays revealed that the two MOFs had excellent structural rigidity, including thermal and water stability.

As global demand for clean and sustainable energy continues to rise, fuel cell technology has seen rapid advancement. However, the presence of trace impurities like carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in hydrogen fuel can significantly deactivate the anode by blocking its active sites, leading to reduced performance. Developing electrocatalysts that are resistant to CO and H₂S poisoning has therefore become a critical priority.
