The co-culture of beta cells and endothelial cells in constructing a pancreatic pseudo-tissue can provide a functional advancement for diabetic-related drug testing and biological studies or transplantation. In order to mimic the pancreatic tissue more similar to , it is necessary to control the microenvironment, including cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions. In this study, we report a geometrically controlled three-dimensional (3D) pancreatic model where MIN6 and MS1 cells are co-cultured within a micropatterned collagen sheet. In 4-10 days, depending on the cell seeding concentration, the MIN6 cells formed islet-like clusters surrounded by an endothelial MS1 cell monolayer. The MS1 cells also formed monolayers at the edge of the micropatterns connecting between the clusters, resulting in a blood vessel-like structure in which no cells were found. It was confirmed that the 3D co-culture structure was not formed in a non-patterned sheet and the structure also helped insulin secretion of MIN6 cells. By simply embedding the cell mixture and the hexagonal micropattern into the collagen sheet, we were also able to achieve the highly reproducible fabrication of a 3D pancreatic pseudo-tissue construct for and applications.

Postoperative adhesion around nerves sometimes results in sensory and motor dysfunctions. To prevent these disorders, we have developed an electrospun nanofiber sheet incorporating methylcobalamin (MeCbl), an active form of vitamin B12 with anti-inflammatory and neuroregenerative effects. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effects of MeCbl sheets against postoperative adhesion and to compare the effects of MeCbl sheets with those of porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS) sheets using a rat sciatic nerve adhesion model.

Current dorsal skin flap window chambers with flat glass windows are compatible with optical coherence tomography (OCT) and multiphoton microscopy (MPM) imaging. However, light sheet fluorescence microscopy (LSFM) performs best with a cylindrical or spherical sample located between its two 90° objectives and when all sample materials have the same index of refraction (). A modified window chamber with a domed viewing window made from fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP), with n similar to water and tissue, was designed.

Background: Mesenchymal stem cells may have neuroprotective and tissue regenerative capabilities and the potential to rescue retinal degeneration in chorioretinal diseases including myopic chorioretinal atrophy. Transplantation of human (allogeneic) adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cell (adMSC) suspensions has been clinically conducted to treat retinal degenerative diseases. However, serious side effects including proliferative vitreoretinopathy and epiretinal membrane formation have been reported.

The flavor retention plays a critical role in the presence of rich flavor profile of meat products. However, the interaction between collagen and furan derivatives has not been previously reported. In this study, the interaction between collagen and furan derivatives during heating was investigated using multidimensional spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
