Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is highly contagious, and thus has become an emerging health crisis worldwide. The optimal strategies to prevent the spread of this disease are inconclusive, and therefore, the adopted measurements to combat COVID-19 varies in different countries. In mid-March and late-August 2020, we performed internet searches to collect relevant information, from sources such as the website of the World Health Organization. The epidemiological data of COVID-19 from several countries were collected and we found that Taiwan had a comparably successful story for combating the pandemic. As of mid-March, Taiwan had high rates of diagnostic testing (688.5 tests per million citizens) with a lower infection rate (49 cases, 2.1 cases per million people). As of late-August, there were 488 cases (20 cases per million people). Furthermore, Taiwanese government-guided strategies and hospital data were also reviewed. We summarized some important strategies to combat COVID-19, which include: (1) border control; (2) official media channel and press conferences; (3) name-based rationing system for medical masks; (4) TOCC-based rapid triage, outdoor clinics, and protective sampling devices; and (5) social distancing, delaying the start of new semesters, and religious assembly restriction. In conclusion, Taiwan had lower rates of COVID-19 compared with other countries, and Taiwan government-guided strategies contributed to the control of the disease's spread.

As mining technology advances, intelligent robots in open-pit mining require precise localization and digital maps. Nonetheless, significant pitch variations, uneven highways, and rocky surfaces with minimal texture present substantial challenges to the precision of feature extraction and positioning in traditional visual SLAM systems, owing to the intricate terrain features of open-pit mines. This study proposes an improved SLAM technique that integrates visual and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) data to address these challenges.

Developing efficiency and long-lived room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) materials through straightforward methods is highly desired. In this work, a stepwise stabilization strategy was proposed by the coordination and in-situ precipitation reactions among organic precursors, inorganic cation and anions, producing room-temperature phosphorescence materials with high emission efficiency (phosphorescence quantum yield of 45 %). Structural and photophysical characterizations revealed the coordination reaction reduced the energy gaps between singlet and triplet states and stabilized the excited states of the guest molecules.

Manganese Hexacyanoferrate (Mn─HCF) is a preferred cathode material for sodium-ion batteries used in large-scale energy storage. However, the inherent vacancies and the presence of HO within the imperfect crystal structure of Mn─HCF lead to material failure and interface failure when used as a cathode. Addressing the challenge of constructing a stable cathode is an urgent scientific problem that needs to be solved to enhance the performance and lifespan of these batteries.

Background: In Taiwan's public health system, community-based pharmacists are key first-line health care providers due to their high accessibility. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the pharmacists played a central role in the distribution of these supplies through the Name-Based Rationing System (NBRS), during an acute shortage of masks and testing kits, that helped reduce the spread of the disease. The NBRS, an innovative government-guided strategy developed after the COVID-19 outbreak, provided equitable and convenient access to masks and COVID-19 test kits.

Article Synopsis
  • * This detection method leverages the unique properties of the MOF, where the fluorescence signal is quenched in the absence of PPi and restored upon the ion's binding, indicating a decrease in the Tyndall effect signal.
  • * The technique allows for sensitive PPi detection with a linear range of 1.25-800 μM and a low detection limit of ~210 nM using simple tools like a laser pointer and a smartphone, showing good recovery rates
