Graphene oxide (GO) crosslinked nanocomposites hydrogels (NCH) of chitosan (CS) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) were synthesized and the feasibility of its application as a versatile adsorbent for the remediation of cationic (methylene blue, MB) as well as anionic (methyl orange, MO) dyes contaminated wastewater was explored. Initially, GO was functionalized with vinyltriethoxysilane which was subsequently used as a chemical crosslinker to synthesize the NCH of CS and CMC (CS/CMC-NCH) with the polymeric mixture of diallyldimethylammonium chloride and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid. About 99% dye was adsorbed from 50 mg/L dye solution of MB dye with 0.4 g/L of CS/CMC-NCH at pH 7, whereas, for MO about 82% dye was adsorbed with 0.6 g/L of CS/CMC-NCH at pH 3. The Adsorption of both dyes is well explained using pseudo-second-order and Langmuir models with the maximum adsorption capacities of 655.98 mg/g for MB and 404.52 mg/g for MO. Thermodynamics studies suggested spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption process with values of ΔS < 0 and ΔH > 0. Furthermore, CS/CMC-NCH showed excellent regeneration capacity for continuous twenty cycles of adsorption-desorption. Therefore, the synthesized CS/CMC-NCH is a versatile adsorbent that can treat both anionic and cationic dyes contaminated wastewater.

Cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is a powerful technique capable of investigating samples in a hydrated state, compared to conventional high-vacuum electron microscopy that requires samples to be completely dry. During the drying process, numerous features and details may be lost due to damage caused by dehydration. Cryo-EM circumvents these problems by cryo-fixing the samples, thereby retaining the intact and original features of hydrated samples.

2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) and 1,1-dimethyl-4,4-bipiridinium chloride (paraquat) are among the most widely used herbicides and are known to be toxic. Fabrication of green adsorbents which are capable of removing both herbicides remains a challenge. Here, we fabricate a novel adsorbent from tropical waste wood and use a facile, chitosan-mediated N-heteroatom functionalization technique to augment surface nitrogen and improve specific surface area.

Overuse of fossil fuels and anthropogenic activities have led to excessive emissions of carbon dioxide, leading to global warming, and measures to reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations are needed to overcome this global challenge. Therefore, exploring an environmentally friendly strategy for capturing airborne CO and converting it into high-value-added chemicals offers a promising pathway toward "carbon neutrality". In recent years, porous organic polymers have attracted much attention for carbon capture and the catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide because of their high specific surface area, high chemical stability, nanoscale porosity, and structural versatility, which make them easy to functionalize.

The corrosion of metals, particularly rust on iron and its alloys, poses significant challenges across industries, with notable economic and environmental consequences. Traditional rust prevention methods, reliant on chemical inhibitors and coatings, often raise concerns regarding their environmental and health impacts. In response, advancements in corrosion science have emphasized the potential of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) derivatives and vaseline-based mixtures as innovative, eco-friendly solutions.

Restructuring of surfaces and interfaces plays a key role in the activation and/or deactivation of a wide spectrum of heterogeneous catalysts and functional materials. The statistical ensemble representation can provide unique atomistic insights into this fluxional and metastable realm, but constructing the ensemble is very challenging, especially for the systems with off-stoichiometric reconstruction and varying coverage of mixed adsorbates. Here, we report GOCIA, a versatile global optimizer for exploring the chemical space of these systems.
