We demonstrate a hybrid silicon tunable laser with wide tunability and rapid switching speed for applications in sensing and optical networks. By implementing an optimized carrier injection phase shifter design, the filters of the silicon laser cavity may be efficiently controlled, enabling both fine and broad wavelength tuning across a 56 nm range, in addition to a rapid 10 ns switching time. The laser emits up to 10 dBm output power, and the linewidth is near 200 kHz. The fast wavelength switching demonstrated here may be employed in data center and access networks, while the potential for rapid wavelength sweeping is attractive for optical sensing and imaging applications.

Silicon photonics is a rapidly developing technology that promises to revolutionize the way we communicate, compute and sense the world. However, the lack of highly scalable, native complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-integrated light sources is one of the main factors hampering its widespread adoption. Despite considerable progress in hybrid and heterogeneous integration of III-V light sources on silicon, monolithic integration by direct epitaxy of III-V materials remains the pinnacle of cost-effective on-chip light sources.

The development of hybrid materials that integrate bioactive and antimicrobial properties within a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer matrix is a key focus in current biomedical research and applications. A significant research gap exists in the field of PHBV nanocomposites, particularly concerning those that simultaneously incorporate both ZnO and HAP particles. This study focuses on the fabrication and characterization of innovative hybrid bionanocomposites composed of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) combined with zinc oxide (ZnO) and silicon-doped hydroxyapatite (SiHAP) nanocrystals.

In this work, a new dual-signal fluorescence strategy based on nano-gold molecular beacon (MB) and in-situ generated silver nano-clusters (NCs) coupled with multiple amplification technique was developed for sensitive detection of miRNA (let-7b). miRNA can recognize both hairpin probe (HP) and auxiliary DNA, inducing dual-cycle amplification-process to release plenty of DNA S2. As the report probe carboxyfluorescein (FAM) was modified on Au nanoparticles (AuNPs), the fluorescent signal was quenched due to the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET).

This study explores the thermal conductivity and viscosity of water-based nanofluids containing silicon dioxide, graphene oxide, titanium dioxide, and their hybrids across various concentrations (0 to 1 vol%) and temperatures (30 to 60 °C). The nanofluids, characterized using multiple methods, exhibited increased viscosity and thermal conductivity compared to water, with hybrid nanofluids showing superior performance. Graphene oxide nanofluids displayed the highest thermal conductivity and viscosity ratios, with increases of 52% and 177% at 60 °C and 30 °C, respectively, for a concentration of 1 vol% compared to base fluid.
