Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a cystic lung disease that primarily affects women. LAM is caused by the invasion of metastatic smooth muscle-like cells into the lung parenchyma, leading to abnormal cell proliferation, lung remodeling and progressive respiratory failure.
