Insect metamorphosis and chitin metabolism under miRNA regulation: a review with current advances.

Pest Manag Sci

March 2025

Key Laboratory of Green Pesticide and Agricultural Bioengineering, Ministry of Education, Guizhou University, Guiyang, China.

Insect metamorphosis is a complex developmental process regulated by microRNAs (miRNAs) and hormonal signaling pathways. Key genes driving insect ontogenic changes are precisely modulated by miRNAs, which interact with 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and juvenile hormone (JH) to coordinate developmental transitions. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made in understanding miRNA biogenesis, their regulatory roles in gene expression, and their involvement in critical biological processes, including metamorphosis and chitin metabolism.

Mathematical analysis of long-distance polar auxin transport data of pin mutants questions the role of PIN1 as postulated in the chemi-osmotic theory.

March 2025

Plant Biodynamics Laboratory and Department of Plant Developmental Genetics, Institute of Biology Leiden, Leiden University, Leiden, The Netherlands.

The plant hormone auxin (Indole-3-Acetic Acid, IAA) is a key player in nearly every aspect of plant growth and development ranging from cell division and cell elongation to embryogenesis and root formation. The IAA level in specific tissues and cells is regulated by synthesis, conjugation, degradation and transport. Especially long-range polar auxin transport (PAT) has been the subject of numerous studies.

Purpose: Breast density (BD) and background parenchymal enhancement (BPE) are important imaging biomarkers for breast cancer (BC) risk. We aim to evaluate longitudinal changes in quantitative BD and BPE in high-risk women undergoing dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI), focusing on the effects of age and transition into menopause.

Approach: A retrospective cohort study analyzed 834 high-risk women undergoing breast DCE-MRI for screening between 2005 and 2020.

Background: The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in various metabolic disorders. Orlistat has shown beneficial effects on weight loss and metabolism, but its direct impact on the gut microbiota has not been extensively reported. Thus, this study aimed to explore the effects of orlistat on the gut microbiota in mice with high-fat diet-induced obesity.

To explore the impact of ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) on severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and clinical outcomes in patients with autoimmune liver disease (AILD). Patients diagnosed with AILD were enrolled and divided into a UDCA group and a non-UDCA group based on whether they received UDCA treatment. Relevant data were collected regarding AILD diagnosis, treatment, biochemical indicators, and imaging examination.
