In a remarkable example, we report a one-dimensional coordination polymer (CP) of Pb(II) showing photosalient (PS) properties triggered by [2 + 2] cycloaddition of olefinic ligands, which is seldom observed in CPs. Macroscopic rod-shaped crystals show various photomechanical effects such as jumping, splitting, rolling, and breaking upon UV illumination. In this rare example, we could determine the solid-state structure of the 100% dimerized product and three intermediate structures, even after the shattering of crystals into small pieces. Detailed mechanistic investigation from the single-crystal data indicates that the strain generated in the unit cell due to anisotropic expansion played a bigger role for the PS effects. Nucleated growth of the photoproduct crystal created different domains inside the single crystal, which multiplied the already developed stress leading to the photomechanical movements. This example falls in the gray area of a clean single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SCSC) transformation and violent PS effect. Such photochemical behavior has never been reported before.

In a systematic study, six pseudopolymorphic coordination polymers containing the ditopic 1,3-di(pyridin-4-yl)urea ligand (4bpu) constructed with d metal cations, possessing the formula {[M(4bpu)I]S} [(M = Zn, Cd and Hg), (S = MeOH or EtOH)], namely Zn-MeOH, Zn-EtOH, Cd-MeOH, Cd-EtOH, Hg- and Hg-EtOH were obtained. The title compounds were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis (SC-XRD), elemental analysis (CHN), FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). The diffraction studies show that these compounds are isostructural 1D zig-zag chain coordination polymers which is also confirmed using XPac 2.

Unlabelled: Accurate prediction of moisture distributions in wood is among the most critical challenges in timber engineering. Achieving this requires a well-coordinated comparison of experimental methods and simulation tools. While significant progress has been made in developing simulation tools in recent years, a lack of experience with and trust in these tools continues to hinder broader implementation, especially when it comes to free water and its absorption.

Achieving microecological balance is a complex environmental challenge. This is because the equilibrium of microecological systems necessitates both the eradication of harmful microorganisms and preservation of the beneficial ones. Conventional materials predominantly target the elimination of pathogenic microorganisms and often neglect the protection of advantageous microbial species.

Fluorescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising sensing materials that have received much attention in recent years, in which the organic ligand conformation changes usually lead to variations of their sensing behavior. Based on this, in the present work, perylene diimide (PDI) derivatives with excellent photochemical properties closely related to their conformation and molecule packing fashion were selected as organic linkers to detect sarin simulant diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP). By the coordination interactions with large lanthanide cations through terminal carboxylate groups from the PDI derivative, a series of one-dimensional coordination polymers, named [Ln(PDICl-2COO)(μ-O)(DMF)] (SNNU-112, Ln = Yb/Tb/Sm/Nd/Pr/Gd/Eu/Er/Ce, PDICl-2COOH = ,'-bis(4-benzoic acid)-1,2,6,7-tetrachlorohydrazone-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide) were synthesized.

Cryogenic magnetic refrigerants based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) hold significant potential as substitutes for the expensive and scarce He-3. Gd(III)-based complexes are considered excellent candidates for low-temperature magnetic refrigerants. We have synthesized a series of Ln(III)-based metal-organic framework (MOF) (Ln = Gd/Dy) by the slow release of oxalates in situ from organic ligands (disodium edetate dehydrate (EDTA-2Na) and thiodiglycolic acid).
